충청권 최대 숙원사업 중 하나로 꼽혀온 ‘KTX 천안아산역 광역복합환승센터’가 복기왕 더불어민주당 의원(아산시갑)의 주도적인 노력으로 가시화되고 있다.
‘KTX 천안아산역 광역복합환승센터’ 사업은 정부 승인 절차를 성공적으로 마친 데 이어, 복 의원은 13일 현장을 직접 찾아 사업 추진 상황을 점검하며 2030년 완공을 목표로 한 ‘속도전’ 체제에 돌입했다.
이 사업은 오랫동안 주차난과 복잡한 환승 환경으로 불편이 컸던 천안아산역 이용객들의 숙원이었지만, 6700억 원대의 막대한 사업비와 기관 간 이견으로 지연돼왔다.
그러나 국회 국토교통위원회 여당 간사이기도 한 복기왕 의원이 국토교통부 대도시권광역교통위원회(대광위)와 지속적인 협의를 이어가며 지난해 9월 최종 개발계획 승인이라는 성과를 이끌어내면서 사업이 본궤도에 오르게 됐다.
복 의원은 이날 김용석 대광위 위원장, 충청남도·아산시 관계자, 한국철도공사, 국가철도공단 등 주요 기관 인사들과 함께 현장을 둘러보며 “KTX 천안아산역 광역복합환승센터는 단순한 교통시설을 넘어 아산의 도시 미래를 새롭게 설계하는 사업”이라고 강조했다.
이어 “1500면 규모의 대형 주차장 확충과 환승 거리 축소(262m→177m)로 시민 편의를 개선하고, 27층 호텔과 23층 오피스 등이 들어서 충청권 경제활성화의 거점 역할을 할 것”이라고 말했다.
총사업비 6735억 원이 투입되는 이번 프로젝트는 연면적 약 30만㎡ 규모의 대단지 개발로, 숙박·업무·상업시설이 집약된 복합거점으로 조성된다.
향후 민관합동 개발을 통해 지역 투자 유치와 일자리 창출 등 경제적 파급효과도 기대된다. 타당성 조사에서 B/C 1.08을 확보한 점은 사업 추진의 실현 가능성을 뒷받침하고 있다.
복기왕 의원은 “국토교통위원회 간사로서 예산과 행정 지원을 끝까지 챙기겠다”며 “충남이 더 이상 수도권의 배후도시가 아닌, 국가 성장의 새로운 축으로 도약할 수 있도록 총력을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
천안아산역 복합환승센터 개발계획은 현재 충청남도의 사업시행자 지정 및 실시계획 승인 고시를 앞두고 있으며, 본격적인 착공은 올해 하반기 중 예상된다.
