2027년 예정된 성룡초등학교와 성천초등학교의 통합을 앞두고, 대전광역시의회가 현장 점검을 통한 선제적인 대응책 마련에 나섰다.
대전시의회 이한영 의원(서구6, 국민의힘)은 13일 성룡초등학교를 방문하여 교육 여건 개선을 위한 간담회를 개최하고 학교 시설 전반을 살폈다.
이날 간담회에는 이한영 의원을 비롯해 대전시교육청 및 서부교육지원청 시설 관계자, 학교 관계자들이 참석해 통합 이후 예상되는 급격한 교육 환경 변화와 이에 따른 대응 과제를 집중적으로 논의했다.
참석자들은 성룡초등학교의 일반 교실과 급식실, 체육관 등 주요 공용 시설을 직접 둘러보며 현재 운영 현황과 공간 활용 가능성을 면밀히 점검했다.
특히 이번 점검에서는 두 학교가 합쳐지면서 늘어날 학생 수를 수용하기 위한 공동시설 이용 효율화 방안과 학생 안전 관리 대책이 핵심 화두로 떠올랐다.
이 의원과 관계자들은 통학로 내 안전시설 확충, 노후화된 학교 시설 정비, 원활한 교육 활동을 위한 추가 공간 확보, 학교 주변 환경 개선 등의 필요성에 대해 깊이 있는 의견을 교환했다.
한편, 통합 후 비워지게 될 성천초등학교 부지의 활용 계획도 구체화되고 있다.
대전시는 오는 2027년 3월 이후 해당 부지에 어린이 도서관을 비롯해 체험·놀이시설, 돌봄교실, 문화센터, 평생학습지원센터 등을 두루 갖춘 ‘성천초 복합어린이도서관’을 조성하여 지역 사회의 교육 거점으로 탈바꿈시킬 예정이다.
현장 점검을 마친 이한영 의원은 “두 학교의 통합 과정에서 무엇보다 중요한 것은 우리 아이들이 안심하고 공부할 수 있는 안전한 시설 환경을 구축하는 것”이라며 “학부모들의 우려를 불식시키고 최적의 학습 여건이 조성될 수 있도록 학교 시설과 통학 환경을 끝까지 꼼꼼하게 챙기겠다”고 강조했다.

This complex will be equipped with a children's library, experiential and play facilities, after-school care classrooms, a cultural center, and a lifelong learning support center.
After completing the site inspection, Council Member Lee Han-young emphasized, "The most important aspect of the two schools' merger process is establishing a safe facility environment where our children can study with peace of mind."
