신천지예수교 증거장막성전(총회장 이만희·이하 신천지예수교회)은 3월15일치 보도자료에서 “42년 전 아파트 지하에서 시작된 초창기 성도들의 헌신이 오늘날 매년 전 세계 수만 명의 신앙인들이 모여드는 부흥의 씨앗이 됐다. 그 성장의 중심에는 단순한 열심을 넘어, 신앙의 본질인 ‘말씀 중심’의 철저한 신앙 원칙이 자리하고 있다“고 전제하고 ”신천지예수교 증거장막성전이 창립 42주년을 맞아 15일 신천지 청주교회에서 기념 예배를 개최했다. 이번 예배는 창립 이래 42년의 궤적을 돌아보며, 예수님과 순교자들을 비롯한 신앙 선배들의 희생에 감사를 표하고 ‘말씀 중심의 신앙’을 재확인하는 자리로 마련됐다. 이날 현장에는 2200여 명의 성도가 참석했으며, 국내외 성도들도 온라인 생중계를 통해 실시간으로 동참해 의미를 더했다“고 알렸다.

이 자료에 따르면, 말씀 선포에 나선 이만희 총회장은 “오늘로 창립 42주년을 맞은 신천지예수교회는 성경을 기준으로 신앙하는 곳”이라고 강조하며 “우리는 오늘날 이루어진 계시록을 가감하지 않고, 실상까지 통달하고 있다고 증거했다“고 전했다. 이어 “죄악 세상을 끝내고 하나님의 의의 세계를 이루는 이것이 하나님께서 원하는 것”이라며 “우리 모두 하나 돼 하나님의 뜻대로 행하고, 함께 마음을 다잡고 하나님과 천사들 앞에서도 인정받는 신앙인이 되자”고 덧붙였다.
신천지예수교 증거장막성전측은 이 자료에서 “희생을 감내하며 폭풍 성장의 밑거름이 된 1세대 성도들이 42주년 예배를 맞이하는 소회는 남달랐다. 첫 성전이 생기기도 전부터 신천지예수교회와 함께했던 박복영(70·여) 성도는 “말씀에 대한 갈증을 해소할 수 있다는 것이 얼마나 큰 기쁨이었는지, 지체들과 함께 매일 감사하며 즐겁게 신앙했다”며 “계시 말씀이 주는 충만함 덕분에 열악한 첫 성전의 지하방 환경은 아무런 문제가 되지 않았다”고 회상했다. 또한 “누구의 노력이 더 크고 작다고 할 순 없겠지만, 결국 말씀의 힘이 사람들의 마음을 움직인 것”이라며 “최근 후배들의 열심으로 매해 수만 명의 신앙인이 몰려오는 걸 보면서 선배들의 희생이 헛되지 않은 것 같아 더 감사하다. 이 모든 것이 말씀의 위력이요, 하나님의 은혜”라고 덧붙였다.
1992년 입교한 조명숙(73·여) 성도 역시 “구원의 확신과 성경의 참뜻을 깨닫고 싶어 기도하던 중 신천지예수교회를 만났고, 차원이 다른 깊이에 확신을 얻어 입교했다”면서 “그때나 지금이나 말씀에 갈급한 신앙인이라면 이곳으로 나아오는 것 같다”고 세대를 관통하는 성장의 비결을 강조했다.
실제로 신천지예수교회는 1984년 3월 14일 창립 이래 전 세계에 요한계시록의 성취 실상을 전파하는 데 주력해 왔다. 이러한 말씀의 확산은 성경 교육 센터 ‘시온기독교선교센터’를 통해 분명히 드러나고 있다. 1991년 1기 수료식을 시작으로 2019년 10만 명이 넘는 수료생을 배출하며 종교계 유례없는 역사를 기록했다. 지난해에는 116기 수료생 5만 9192명이 신천지 청주교회에 모였다. 이 가운데 다수가 해외 수료생으로, 계시 복음이 전 세계로 확산하고 있음을 입증했다.
신앙의 중년을 맞은 신천지예수교회는 외부와의 소통도 확대하고 있다. 국내외 목회자들과 말씀 교류 MOU 및 간판 교체 MOA를 체결하며 활발한 교류를 이어가면서다. 지난해까지 누적 말씀 교류 MOU는 국내 969개, 해외 89개국 1만 4347개 교회에 달한다. 간판 교체 MOA를 통해서는 국내 129개, 해외 48개국 1729개 교회가 신천지예수교회로 간판을 바꿨다.
신천지예수교회는 국가적 위기 상황마다 실질적인 구호 활동에 앞장서며 사회적 책임도 다해왔다. 특히 코로나19 팬데믹 당시 3741명의 성도가 치료제 개발을 위해 혈장을 공여했으며, 2022년 국가적 혈액 대란 시기에는 단 2주 만에 7만여 명의 성도가 헌혈을 완료해 혈액 수급 위기 극복에 중추적인 역할을 했다. 또한 태안 기름유출 사고, 2017년 포항 지진, 안동·의성 산불 등 대형 재난 현장에는 항상 대규모 자원봉사단을 파견해 복구 작업에 힘을 보탰다. 이와 함께 외국인 노동자 대상 의료 봉사, 독거노인 반찬 나눔 등 지역사회 소외계층을 위한 일상적 돌봄 활동도 꾸준히 전개하며 예수님의 가르침인 ‘사랑’의 가치를 실천하고 있다.
신천지예수교회 관계자는 “지난 42년은 성도들의 헌신과 더불어, 변치 않는 ‘하나님 말씀’이라는 본질이 일궈낸 경이로운 여정”이라며 “앞으로도 신앙의 초심을 바탕으로 변치 않는 진리의 가치를 전파하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

In a press release dated March 15, Shincheonji Church of Jesus Testimony (Chairman Lee Man-hee; hereinafter Shincheonji Church) stated, “The dedication of the early believers, who started in an apartment basement 42 years ago, became the seed of revival that attracts tens of thousands of believers from around the world every year today. At the center of this growth lies a thorough principle of faith that goes beyond mere zeal—a ‘Word-centered’ faith, which is the essence of faith.” The statement continued, “To mark its 42nd founding anniversary, Shincheonji Church of Jesus Testimony held a commemorative service at Shincheonji Cheongju Church on the 15th. This service was organized as an occasion to look back on the trajectory of the 42 years since its founding, express gratitude for the sacrifices of predecessors in faith including Jesus and martyrs, and reaffirm a ‘Word-centered faith.’” On this day It was reported that "approximately 2,200 believers attended the event in person, and believers from both Korea and abroad also participated in real-time via online live streaming, adding further significance."
According to this material, General Chairman Lee Man-hee, who delivered the sermon, emphasized, "The Shincheonji Church of Jesus, marking its 42nd anniversary today, is a place that bases its faith on the Bible." He further stated, "We testified that we have fully grasped the reality of the Book of Revelation, which has been fulfilled today, without adding to or subtracting from it." He continued, "Ending the sinful world and establishing God's world of righteousness is what God desires," adding, "Let us all become one, act according to God's will, strengthen our hearts together, and become believers recognized even before God and the angels."
In this document, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus Testimony Tabernacle stated, “The first-generation members, who endured sacrifices and served as the foundation for explosive growth, shared unique sentiments as they welcomed the 42nd anniversary service.” Member Park Bok-young (70, female), who has been with Shincheonji Church of Jesus since before the first temple was established, recalled, “It was such a great joy to be able to quench our thirst for the Word; we practiced our faith joyfully and with gratitude every day together with our fellow members.” She added, “Thanks to the fullness provided by the revealed Word, the poor conditions of the first temple’s basement room were no problem at all.” Furthermore, she remarked, “While it cannot be said whose efforts were greater or smaller, ultimately, it was the power of the Word that moved people’s hearts.” She continued, “Seeing tens of thousands of believers flocking every year due to the recent zeal of our juniors, I am even more grateful because it seems the sacrifices of our predecessors were not in vain.” “All of this is the power of the Word and the grace of God,” he added.
Member Jo Myeong-suk (73, female), who joined in 1992, also emphasized the secret to the church’s growth that transcends generations, stating, “I encountered Shincheonji Church of Jesus while praying to gain assurance of salvation and realize the true meaning of the Bible. I joined after gaining conviction from a depth of a different dimension.” She added, “It seems that then and now, any believer who is thirsty for the Word comes to this place.”
In fact, since its founding on March 14, 1984, Shincheonji Church of Jesus has focused on spreading the reality of the fulfillment of the Book of Revelation throughout the world. This spread of the Word is clearly evident through the Bible education center, the ‘Zion Christian Mission Center.’ Starting with the first graduation ceremony in 1991, the church produced over 100,000 graduates by 2019, recording an unprecedented history in the religious world. Last year, 59,192 graduates from the 116th class came to Shincheonji Cheongju Church. They gathered. A large number of them were overseas graduates, proving that the Gospel of Revelation is spreading throughout the world.
Having reached the middle age of its faith, Shincheonji Church of Jesus is also expanding its communication with the outside world. This is being achieved by continuing active exchanges through the signing of MOUs for the exchange of the Word and MOAs for signboard replacements with pastors at home and abroad. As of last year, the cumulative number of MOUs for the exchange of the Word reached 969 churches in Korea and 14,347 churches in 89 countries overseas. Through the signboard replacement MOAs, 129 churches in Korea and 1,729 churches in 48 countries overseas changed their signs to Shincheonji Church of Jesus.
Shincheonji Church of Jesus has also fulfilled its social responsibilities by taking the lead in practical relief activities during every national crisis. In particular, during the COVID-19 pandemic, 3,741 members donated plasma for the development of treatments, and during the national blood shortage in 2022, over 70,000 members completed blood donations in just two weeks, playing a pivotal role in overcoming the blood supply crisis. An official from the Shincheonji Church of Jesus stated, "The past 42 years have been a wondrous journey achieved through the dedication of the believers and the unchanging essence of the 'Word of God.' We will continue to do our utmost to spread the value of unchanging truth based on our original faith."
