[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 제66주년 3․15의거 기념식이 15일 창원 국립3·15민주묘지에서 개최됐다.
올해 기념식은 ‘눈부신 오늘, 끝나지 않는 이야기’라는 주제로 이재명 대통령과 박완수 경남도지사를 비롯해 3․15의거 유공자와 유족 등 700여 명이 참석했다.
3·15의거 기념식에 현직 대통령이 참석한 것은 이번이 처음이다.
이날 기념사에서 이 대통령은 "대한민국 대통령으로서 국가권력에 의해 큰 아픔을 겪은 3·15의거 희생자 유가족분들께 진심 어린 사과와 위로의 말을 전한다"며 "여러분의 숭고한 희생을 잊지 않겠다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 "국민주권정부는 오늘날 우리가 누리는 자유와 민주주의, 번영의 근간에 우리 국민이 보여준 불굴의 저력이 있음을 항상 명심하겠다"며 "위대한 대한국민과 함께 민주유공자들과 열사들이 그토록 간절히 소망했던 '국민이 주인인 나라'를 향해 담대하게 나아가겠다"고 말했다.
이어 "마산에서 시작한 3·15의거는 전국 곳곳의 4·19혁명을 촉발했고 마침내 강력했던 독재정권을 무너뜨렸다"며 "부마항쟁, 5·18민주화운동, 6월 민주항쟁, 촛불혁명과 빛의 혁명까지 이어진 3·15정신은 위기 때마다 나라를 일으켜 세울 우리의 이정표가 되었다"고 강조했다.

이날 기념식에서 박완수 경남지사는 3·15의거로 희생된 민주 영령을 기리고, 자유·민주·정의의 3·15 정신을 계승해 나가야 한다는 뜻을 전하며 행사의 의미를 되새겼다.
한편, 전날인 14일에는 국립3·15민주묘지에서 제66주년 3․15의거 추모제가 열렸다.
3․15의거희생자유족회와 3․15의거기념사업회가 주관한 이번 추모제에는 박일웅 경상남도 행정부지사, 박종철 경상남도경찰청장, 민주화 운동 관련 단체 및 유족 등이 참석해 차를 올리는 헌다, 분향, 묵념을 통해 민주 영령을 추모했다.
‘3․15의거’는 대한민국 최초의 유혈 민주화운동으로 평가된다. 1960년 3월 15일 마산 시민과 학생들은 이승만 정권의 부정선거에 항거해 대규모 시위를 벌였다.
이후 경찰 진압 과정에서 희생된 김주열 열사의 시신이 4월 11일 마산 앞바다에서 발견되면서 시위가 전국으로 확산됐고, 이는 4․19 혁명의 도화선이 됐다.
경남도는 매년 추모제와 전국 백일장대회 등 다양한 기념행사를 관련 단체와 함께 개최하며, ‘자유·민주·정의’의 3․15 정신 확산을 위해 노력하고 있다.
