김부겸 전 국무총리의 출마 가능성에 대해서는 “내가 출마하면 김 전 총리도 쉽게 나오지 못할 것”이라며 본선 경쟁력을 자신했다.
경제 정책과 관련해서는 수도권의 법인세 부담을 높이고, 지방 세율은 낮추는 방안을 제시하며 "이렇게 해야 기업들이 지방으로 이전할 것"이라고 말했다. 또, 법인세와 상속세 인하를 통해 지방 투자 환경을 개선해야 한다는 의견도 덧붙였다.
대구·경북 행정통합에 관한 견해도 밝혔다. 주 부의장은 “행정통합이 이루어지면 지금 연간 1조 원 수준인 정책사업비가 5조~6조 원까지 늘어날 수 있다”며 통합 법안 처리가 반드시 필요하다고 강조했다.
사법 현안에 대해서는 “한 사람을 위해 사법 체계를 건드려서는 안 된다”며 여권의 관련 입법 움직임에 비판의 목소리를 냈다.
한편, 그는 한동훈 전 국민의힘 대표와의 일화도 전했다. 한 전 대표가 서문시장 방문을 앞두고 전날 안부 전화를 해왔다고 밝혔다.
