대전시는 16일 시청 중회의실에서 국가과학기술연구회와 대덕연구개발특구 내 12개 연구기관과 함께 ‘대덕특구 연구기관 주말개방’ 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 연구 현장을 시민에게 꾸준히 개방해 과학문화 확산과 지역사회와의 교류를 더욱 넓혀가겠다는 취지다.
‘대덕특구 연구기관 주말개방’은 2023년 대덕특구 50주년을 계기로 시작된 프로그램으로, 평소 접근하기 어려운 국가 핵심 연구기관을 시민에게 열어 첨단 연구성과를 직접 보고 듣고 체험할 수 있도록 한 대전시 대표 과학문화 사업이다. 올해는 참여 기관이 12곳으로 늘어나면서 규모와 내용 모두 한층 확대됐다.
올해 주말 개방은 4월 한국표준과학연구원을 시작으로 10월까지 기관별 릴레이 방식으로 운영된다. 각 기관은 자체 특성을 살린 연구실 투어, 과학 체험 프로그램, 강연 등을 마련해 가족 단위 방문객과 청소년, 일반 시민을 맞이할 계획이다.
대전시는 특히 사업 4년 차를 맞은 올해, 참여가 상대적으로 적었던 동구·중구·대덕구 지역 학생들을 대상으로 교육청과 연계한 주중 체험 프로그램도 시범 도입하기로 했다. 학교 교육과 연계된 현장 방문을 통해 지역 청소년들이 ‘과학수도 대전’의 연구 역량을 보다 촘촘히 경험하도록 하겠다는 구상이다.
