최근 특정 인사의 출마를 막기 위한 전략 공천 의혹에 대해서도 입장을 밝혔다. 주 부의장은 “공천 과정에서는 민심과 절차가 우선이어야 한다”며, 투명한 공천 절차의 필요성을 강조했다.
또 김부겸 전 국무총리의 대구시장 출마 가능성이 거론되는 상황에 대해선 “우리가 혼란을 자초하면 상대 당이 유리해질 수 있다”고 우려를 드러냈다.
