[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 거제시는 17일 소노캄 거제에서 ‘거제 조선해양 M.AX 얼라이언스 출범식’을 개최하고, 조선해양산업의 지능화·자동화를 위한 협력 기반 구축에 나섰다.
‘M.AX 얼라이언스’는 거제시, 한화오션과 삼성중공업, 중소조선연구원이 참여하는 산·관·연 협력 플랫폼이다.
단순 자동화를 넘어 AI 기반 제조 혁신을 뜻하는 AX(AI Transformation)를 중심으로, 생산공정의 지능화와 자율화를 통해 글로벌 경쟁력을 강화하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 행사는 거제시 주정운 경제해양국장의 운영계획 발표를 시작으로 중소조선연구원의 ‘조선해양 생산공정혁신(AX) 센터 구축 방안’ 발표가 이어졌다.
특히 한화오션과 삼성중공업은 각각 ‘AX 생태계 조성 및 산업 연계 전략’을 공유하며, 대형 조선소의 기술 역량을 협력업체로 확산하는 상생형 디지털 전환 방향을 제시했다.
이어서 거제시와 양대 조선소, 중소조선연구원은 ‘상생발전 협약(MOU)’을 체결하고 실질적인 협력체계 가동을 공식화했다.
각 기관은 이번 협약을 통해 AI 기반 공정 혁신과 인재 양성, 기술 공유에 긴밀히 협력하기로 뜻을 모았다.
거제시는 이번 얼라이언스 출범을 동력 삼아 산업통상부가 주관하는 ‘조선해양 생산공정혁신(AX) 기반 구축사업’ 공모 유치에 시정 역량을 집중할 계획이다.
오는 6월 장목면에 준공 예정인 ‘중소형 조선소 생산기술혁신(DX) 센터’와 연계해 AX 기술 인프라를 결합시킴으로써, 거제를 글로벌 조선해양 디지털 혁신 거점으로 도약시키겠다는 구상이다.
변광용 거제시장은 “거제 조선산업의 새로운 100년을 준비하기 위해 산·관·연이 함께하는 M.AX 얼라이언스를 출범하게 됐다”며, “양대 조선소와 협력사가 함께 성장하는 ‘거제형 상생 모델’을 통해 대한민국 조선업의 재도약을 이끌겠다”고 밝혔다.
이어서 “산업부의 AX 기반 구축사업을 반드시 유치해, 거제를 인공지능 전환을 선도하는 글로벌 조선 혁신 도시로 발전시키겠다”고 강조했다.
거제시는 향후 AX 기술을 통한 지역 조선산업 경쟁력 강화는 물론, 협력업체의 제조 혁신 지원과 미래 디지털 조선 인재 양성에도 적극 나설 계획이다.

Geoje Mayor Byun Kwang-yong stated, “We have launched the M.AX Alliance, bringing together industry, government, and research institutions, to prepare for the next 100 years of Geoje’s shipbuilding industry.” He added, “We will lead the resurgence of Korea’s shipbuilding industry through a ‘Geoje-style win-win model’ where the two major shipyards and their partner companies grow together.”
He further emphasized, “We will definitely secure the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s AX infrastructure construction project to develop Geoje into a global shipbuilding innovation city leading the transition to artificial intelligence.”
Going forward, Geoje City plans to actively engage in strengthening the competitiveness of the local shipbuilding industry through AX technology, as well as supporting manufacturing innovation for partner companies and fostering future digital shipbuilding talent.
