추 의원은 18일 입장문을 통해 “국회의원으로 지낸 지난 10년 동안 단 한 번도 국민과 당원이 맡긴 책임을 외면한 적이 없다”며 “매 순간 당과 국민을 위해 주어진 역할을 다해왔다”고 밝혔다.
또한, 총선 패배 뒤 22대 국회 첫 원내대표직을 맡았던 것을 언급하며 “모두가 ‘독배’라고 했던 자리였지만 동료들의 요청에 따라 당과 나라를 위해 나섰고, 거대 야당과의 싸움 맨 앞에서 싸워왔다”고 말했다.
대구시장 출마 배경에 대해선 “35년 동안 경제 관료로 일하며 경제부총리를 지낸 경험을 바탕으로, 대구 경제를 다시 일으켜 달라는 시민과 당원들의 요청을 외면할 수 없었다”고 설명했다.
이어 “원내대표였다는 이유로 정치적 수사 표적이 되고, 당 해산을 겨냥한 탄압의 대상이 됐다”며 “개인 안위를 생각했다면 국회의원직에 남는 것이 더 쉬웠겠지만, 책임이 필요한 순간마다 앞장서는 것이 저의 선택이었다”고 강조했다.
추 의원은 “22대 국회 개원 이후 해외 일정까지 미루고 나라와 당을 위해 헌신해왔다”며 “누가 당을 위해 싸워왔는지는 분명히 평가받게 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Rep. Choo Kyung-ho of the People Power Party reiterated his determination to run for Mayor of Daegu, while also addressing his political responsibilities and roles.

Rep. Chu stated, “Since the opening of the 22nd National Assembly, I have dedicated myself to the country and the party, even postponing overseas schedules,” adding, “Who has fought for the party will clearly be evaluated.”
