미국이 한국과 유럽 국가들에 군함 파견을 요청했습니다. 미국의 이란 침공의 마무리를 석유공급이 절실한 아시아 국가들과 동맹국들에게 맡기고 싶은가 봅니다. 하지만, 연합함대를 구성하기도 전에 우리나라 혼자 성급히 호르무즈 해협에 군함을 파견해서는 안 될 것입니다.
호르무즈 해협이 안전하다면, 미군 홀로도 유조선을 호위할 수 있을 것이며, 정말 안전하다면, 미군의 호위 없이도 유조선의 자유 운항이 가능해야 할 것입니다.
장거리 미사일과 드론은 요격으로 해결한다 해도 해안 포대와 사정거리가 호르무즈 해협에 미치는 이란 본토의 각종 포대, 그리고 유조선 폭파용 무인 소형 자폭함정들과 기뢰문제도 해결해야 합니다. 중국이나, 인도, 투르키에처럼 이란 정부와 협상을 통해 유조선을 호송해 올 수도 있겠으나, 쉽지 않을 것 같습니다. 이란 입장에서는 한국과, 일본으로 가는 유조선들은 소위 인질과도 같습니다. 쉽게 놓아줄 것 같지 않습니다.
하지만, 급하다고 해서 우리 군함 홀로 호르무즈 해협으로 나아간다면 폭탄을 지고 불속으로 뛰어 드는 꼴입니다. 만약에 폭격을 받거나, 기뢰에 침몰된다면 미-이란 전쟁에 우리도 바로 휩쓸리게 될지도 모릅니다.
따라서, 우리는 거론된 국가들을 포함한 여러 나라의 연합함대를 구성하려는 노력을 할 필요가 있으며, 연합함대 구성이 되지 않는다면, 우리 군함을 보내는 일도 힘들어 질 것 같습니다. 아무리 급하다고 해도 바늘의 허리를 묶어서 바느질을 할 수는 없습니다.
다행히 우리나라에 208일분의 석유 비축량이 있다는데 이를 효율적으로 방출하면서, 연합함대를 구성하려는 노력에 적극 협력하는 자세를 보이는 게 옳다고 봅니다. 관세 문제 해결의 경우와 같이 이번 경우에도 시간과의 싸움이 되었고, 정부와 국민의 인내심이 필요하겠습니다.

이와는 별도로 유조선 안에서 고생하고 있을 선원들에 대한 대책마련도 필요합니다. 우리 공군이 <사막의 빛> 작전으로 중동 여러 나라에 흩어져 있던 우리 국민들을 모아, 두 명의 일본인들과 함께 공군기 편으로 안전하게 귀국시킨 점은 칭찬하고, 감사하지 않을 수가 없습니다.
그와 더불어, 유조선 선원들도 안전하게 귀국할 수 있기를 기원합니다.

The United States has requested the dispatch of warships from South Korea and European nations. It appears they wish to entrust the completion of the U.S. invasion of Iran to Asian countries and allies in desperate need of oil supplies. However, our country should not hastily dispatch warships to the Strait of Hormuz alone before even forming a combined fleet.
If the Strait of Hormuz is safe, the U.S. military alone should be able to escort oil tankers; if it is truly safe, the free navigation of oil tankers should be possible without U.S. escort.
Even if long-range missiles and drones can be dealt with through interception, we must also resolve issues regarding coastal batteries, various batteries on the Iranian mainland whose range extends to the Strait of Hormuz, as well as unmanned small suicide boats designed to destroy oil tankers and mines. While it might be possible to escort the oil tankers through negotiations with the Iranian government, as China, India, and Turkmenistan have done, it does not seem likely to be easy. From Iran's perspective, oil tankers bound for Korea and Japan are akin to so-called hostages. It seems unlikely they will release them easily.
However, if our warships were to advance into the Strait of Hormuz alone simply because of the urgency, it would be akin to jumping into a fire with a bomb on one's back. If they were to be bombed or sunk by mines, we might be immediately swept up in a U.S.-Iran war.
Therefore, we need to make efforts to form a multinational coalition fleet that includes the countries mentioned; without such a coalition, sending our own warships will likely become difficult. No matter how urgent the situation, you cannot sew by tying the needle in the middle.
Fortunately, our country has a 208-day oil reserve; I believe it is right to efficiently release this reserve while demonstrating an attitude of active cooperation in the efforts to form a coalition fleet. Just as with the resolution of the tariff issue, this case has become a race against time, and patience from both the government and the public is required.
Separately, measures must also be taken to address the plight of the crew members suffering on board these oil tankers. I cannot help but praise and thank our Air Force for gathering our citizens scattered across various Middle Eastern countries through Operation Light and safely bringing them back home along with two Japanese nationals aboard an Air Force aircraft.
In addition, I pray that the oil tanker crew members will also be able to return home safely.
