원성수 세종시교육감 예비후보가 세종교육의 체질을 바꾸겠다며 교육 전반의 구조 개편 구상을 내놨다.
획일적 공교육에서 벗어나 학생 개개인의 재능과 성장에 초점을 맞춘 교육으로 전환하겠다는 구상을 밝힌 원 예비후보는 18일 오후 세종시 선거사무실에서 첫 ‘미디어소통데이’를 열고 교육감 선거 출마 배경과 주요 비전, 대표 공약을 발표했다.
‘미디어소통데이’에서 원성수 예비후보는 세종교육이 지난 10년간의 틀에서 벗어나야 할 시점이라고 규정하며 “이제는 단순한 관리가 아니라 개혁 수준의 변화가 필요하다”고 말했다.
이어 세종교육이 그동안 하향 평준화와 획일화의 한계를 드러냈다고 진단했다.
원 예비후보는 공교육에 대한 신뢰가 약해지면서 사교육 의존은 높아지고, 교육 선택권은 좁아졌다는 것이다. 특히 학생들의 소질과 적성을 살리는 교육보다는 평균에 맞춘 운영이 지속되면서 교육의 경쟁력도 떨어졌다고 주장했다.
