세계여성평화그룹(IWPG)이 제70차 유엔 여성지위위원회(CSW70)에 참석해 분쟁 지역 여성의 역할 변화와 공중보건 위기 대응을 위한 국제적 연대를 끌어내며 17일(현지시간) 뉴욕 일정을 마쳤다.
IWPG는 이날 유엔 인근 처치센터(CCUN)에서 국제여성리더네트워크(INLW), 튀르키예 그린크레센트와 공동으로 NGO 포럼을 개최했다.
'분쟁 영향 지역에서의 여성 평화 리더십: 회복력과 변화'를 주제로 열린 이번 포럼은 네덜란드와 튀르키예의 주요 NGO들이 분쟁 지역 여성의 역량 강화라는 공동 목표를 위해 IWPG와 손을 잡으면서 성사됐다.
기조연설에 나선 최경남 IWPG 사무총장은 여성의 지위를 단순한 '피해자'에서 '공동체 회복의 주체'로 재정의했다.
최 사무총장은 지속 가능한 평화를 위해 여성의 인식 전환과 연대를 통한 연결 확장, 현장의 목소리를 반영한 정책 수립 등 세 가지 핵심 변화를 제안하며, 여성이 스스로 목소리를 낼 수 있는 환경 조성의 중요성을 역설했다.

특히 개인의 변화가 가족과 지역사회의 신뢰 회복으로 번지는 '확산 효과'를 강조하며, 이를 뒷받침할 국제적 플랫폼과 제도적 지원의 필요성을 제기했다.
같은 날 오후 유엔 본부에서는 여성의 행동 중독 문제와 공중보건 대응을 다룬 사이드 이벤트가 열렸다. 주유엔 튀르키예 대표부 등 6개 기관이 공동 주최한 이 행사에서 IWPG는 남수단 여성의 사례를 통해 고립이 아닌 '연결'이 중독 회복의 시작임을 강조해 참석자들의 공감을 얻었다.
현장에 참석한 미국과 케냐의 교육 및 시민사회 전문가들은 실질적인 변화를 위해 평화 지향적 여성 단체들의 연대가 필수적이라며 IWPG가 마련한 대화의 장에 깊은 사의를 표했다.

IWPG Presents Women's Leadership and Public Health Alternatives for Conflict Zones at UN CSW70
