[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 올해 51회를 맞는 홍의장군축제가 의병의 성지 의령군에서 4월 16일 열린다.
축제는 반세기를 넘어 새로운 도약에 나서는 전환점으로 의병정신을 과거의 역사에 머무르지 않고 오늘의 가치로 확장하는 '현대적 선언'의 의미를 담았다.
군은 이번 축제를 통해 의병정신의 새로운 100년을 여는 출발점으로 삼겠다는 구상이다.
홍의장군축제는 임진왜란 당시 전국 최초로 의병을 일으킨 곽재우 장군과 17장령, 그리고 이름 없이 나라를 지킨 무명 의병들의 숭고한 호국정신을 기리고 체험하는 의령의 대표 역사문화축제다.
47년 동안 '의병제전'으로 이어져 온 축제는 2023년 '의령홍의장군축제'로 명칭을 변경하며 새롭게 출발했다.
이후 '2024~2025 경상남도 지정 우수 문화관광축제'에 선정된 데 이어 '2026~2027년'에도 연속 선정되며 그 경쟁력을 인정받았다.
군은 올해 51회를 맞아 '의병 미래를 밝히다, K-모두의 의병'이라는 슬로건을 내걸고 의병정신을 단순한 관람을 넘어 직접 보고 즐기고 참여하는 프로그램으로 대폭 강화했다.
특히 홍의서당, 홍의통보 투어, 의병 플레이존과 토너먼트, 의병 보물찾기 페스타 등을 보드게임 형식으로 연계해 축제장을 하나의 '게임판'처럼 구성했다.
관람객이 미션을 수행하며 이동하는 방식으로 어린이와 가족 단위 방문객이 '미래의 의병'이 되어 자연스럽게 의병정신을 체험하도록 했다.
체험형 실외 공간으로 재구성된 '의병 주제거리'도 눈길을 끈다.
빛과 영상으로 연출된 공간과 정암진 전투를 재해석한 프로그램, 의병장이 관람객과 직접 소통하는 공연 등을 통해 축제의 몰입도를 한층 끌어올릴 예정이다.
