경상북도와 경북문화재단 콘텐츠진흥원, 애니메이션 제작사 ㈜픽셀플레넷은 ‘강치아일랜드’ 시즌2가 오는 5월 KBS 2TV를 통해 정식 방영된다고 밝혔다.
‘강치아일랜드’는 독도 앞바다에 숨겨진 마법학교를 배경으로, 강치·음치·아치·이치·망치 등 다섯 강치 캐릭터가 ‘수호 마법사’로 성장하는 이야기를 담은 작품이다. 지난해 11월 방영된 시즌1은 독도새우, 괭이갈매기, 섬기린초 등 실제 독도 생태계를 소재로 한 캐릭터를 통해 어린이 시청자들에게 환경과 영토의 중요성을 자연스럽게 전달했다는 평가를 받았다.
이번 시즌2는 한층 확장된 세계관과 강화된 마법 액션을 앞세워 흥행을 이어갈 전망이다. 제작진은 실제 독도 생태를 기반으로 한 교육적 요소에 재미를 더해 ‘에듀테인먼트’ 콘텐츠로서 완성도를 높였다고 설명했다.
특히 시즌2에서는 기존 캐릭터들의 성장 서사에서 나아가 본격적인 해양 모험이 펼쳐진다. 신규 캐릭터 ‘길치’가 합류하고, 쭈꾸미 마법사 등 악당에 맞서 독도와 바다 생태계를 지키는 이야기를 통해 환경 보호 메시지를 보다 적극적으로 전달할 예정이다.
한편 진흥원은 시즌2 방영과 함께 시즌1이 채널A 편성을 확정했다고 밝혔다. 기존 KBS와 재능TV에 이어 종합편성채널까지 방영을 확대하며 콘텐츠 경쟁력을 입증했다는 평가다.
이종수 진흥원장은 “국내를 넘어 중국, 동남아시아, 유럽 등 글로벌 OTT 플랫폼 진출도 협의 중”이라며 “강치아일랜드가 세계 어린이들에게 사랑받는 대표 K-콘텐츠로 성장할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

Set against the backdrop of a magic school hidden in the waters off Dokdo, ‘Gangchi Island’ tells the story of five sea lion characters—Gangchi, Eumchi, Achi, Ichi, and Mangchi—as they grow into ‘Guardian Wizards.’ Season 1, which aired last November, was praised for naturally conveying the importance of the environment and territory to child viewers through characters based on the actual Dokdo ecosystem, such as Dokdo shrimp, black-tailed gulls, and Island giraffe grass.
Season 2 is expected to continue its success by featuring an expanded worldview and enhanced magical action. The production team explained that they enhanced the quality of the content as "edutainment" by adding entertainment to educational elements based on the actual ecology of Dokdo.
In particular, Season 2 moves beyond the growth narratives of existing characters to unfold full-scale marine adventures. With the addition of a new character, "Gilchi," the series plans to more actively convey a message of environmental protection through stories of defending Dokdo and the marine ecosystem against villains such as the Squid Wizard.
Meanwhile, the Promotion Agency announced that Season 1 has confirmed its broadcast on Channel A alongside the airing of Season 2. This is seen as proof of the content's competitiveness, expanding its broadcast to include a general programming channel following existing broadcasts on KBS and JaeNeung TV.
Lee Jong-soo, President of the Promotion Agency, stated, "We are also discussing expansion into global OTT platforms in China, Southeast Asia, and Europe, beyond the domestic market," adding, "We will actively support Gangchi Island so that it can grow into a representative K-content loved by children around the world."
