경상북도는 오는 4월 3일부터 6일까지 4일간 안동시와 예천군 일원에서 ‘제64회 경북도민체육대회’를 개최한다고 밝혔다. 이번 대회는 ‘함께여는 화합체전, 미래여는 경북도민’을 슬로건으로 22개 시·군 선수단 1만2천여 명이 참가해 30개 종목에서 경쟁을 펼친다.
경기는 안동 20개소, 예천 13개소를 비롯해 포항시, 김천시, 구미시 등 관외 경기장 4개소까지 총 37개 경기장에서 분산 개최된다. 일부 종목은 원활한 운영을 위해 3월 말부터 사전 경기가 진행된다.
개회식은 기존 경기장이 아닌 경북도청 새마을광장에서 ‘광장형 행사’로 열려 도민 누구나 참여할 수 있는 열린 축제로 진행된다. 성화는 경주 토함산과 안동 임청각, 예천 개심사지에서 각각 채화돼 경북의 역사와 상징성을 담아 하나로 모인다.
개회식 당일에는 공군 특수비행팀 ‘블랙이글스’의 축하 비행을 시작으로 전통 공연과 인기 가수 공연, 드론쇼 등이 이어져 볼거리를 더할 예정이다.
이번 대회 기간 동안 선수단과 방문객 등 약 3만여 명이 지역을 찾을 것으로 예상되며, 숙박·외식업 등 지역 상권 활성화에도 긍정적인 효과가 기대된다. 경북도는 성공적인 대회 운영을 위해 40억 원을 투입해 체육시설 개보수 등 기반 시설을 정비했다.
폐회식은 4월 6일 예천진호국제양궁장에서 열리며, 대회기 전달과 함께 차기 개최지인 영주·봉화로 바통을 넘긴다.
경상북도 관계자는 “도민체전이 스포츠를 통해 지역민이 하나 되는 화합의 장이 되길 바란다”며 “안동·예천 공동 개최를 계기로 경북의 미래를 밝히는 소통과 연대의 장으로 자리매김할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

The competitions will be held across a total of 37 venues, including 20 in Andong, 13 in Yecheon, and four off-site venues in Pohang, Gimcheon, and Gumi. Preliminary matches for some sports will begin in late March to ensure smooth operation. The opening ceremony will be held as a "plaza-style event" at the Saemaul Plaza of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office rather than at existing stadiums, serving as an open festival where all provincial residents can participate. The torch will be lit at Mt. Toham in Gyeongju, Imcheonggak in Andong, and the Gaeimsa Temple Site in Yecheon, converging to embody the history and symbolism of Gyeongbuk.
On the day of the opening ceremony, the event is set to offer a variety of attractions, starting with a celebratory flight by the Air Force special flight team, the "Black Eagles," followed by traditional performances, concerts by popular singers, and a drone show.
Approximately 30,000 people, including athletes and visitors, are expected to visit the region during the competition, and a positive impact on the revitalization of local commercial districts, such as the accommodation and dining industries, is anticipated. To ensure the successful operation of the event, Gyeongbuk Province has invested 4 billion won to improve infrastructure, including the renovation of sports facilities.
The closing ceremony will be held on April 6 at the Yecheon Jinho International Archery Field, where the baton will be passed to the next host cities, Yeongju and Bonghwa, along with the handover of the competition flag. An official from Gyeongsangbuk-do stated, “We hope the Provincial Sports Festival will become a venue for harmony where local residents become one through sports,” adding, “With the joint hosting by Andong and Yecheon, it will establish itself as a venue for communication and solidarity that brightens the future of Gyeongbuk.”
