일당 독주가 마침내 ‘일당 독재’라는 괴물의 실체로 드러나고 있다. 집권 여당은 이제는 국회 상임위마저도 통째로 삼켜 버리겠다고 선언하고 나섰다. 사법 장악, 검찰 무력화에 이어 국회까지 날로 독식하겠다는 것이다. 스스로의 절제와 견제를 거부하는 것이야말로 독재의 전형이다.
협치의 마지막 안전핀까지 뽑아버리겠다는 것이다. 1988년 군사독재 이후 어렵게 쌓아온 의회주의의 관행을 스스로 무너뜨리고 있다. 김대중·김영삼·김종필 총재가 국민과 함께 만들었던 "균형과 견제의 질서"가 짓밟히고 있다. 그 자리를 대신하는 것은 오직 권력 독점이자 독재일 뿐이다. 명분은 사라졌고, 탐욕만 남았다.
야당 시절, 줄탄핵과 예산 폭주로 국정을 마비시키던 세력이다. 이제는 계엄 유발 책임은 지우고, 권력은 독점하겠다는 야만적 폭력을 휘두르고 있는 것 아닌가. 뻔뻔함을 넘어, 정치적 양심 자체가 실종된 야만적 독재 정치라는 비판을 모면할 수 없다. 지금 세계는 전쟁과 위기로 흔들리고 있다. 그러나 대한민국 국회는 민생이 아니라 권력 방탄에 매달려 있다. 이재명 대통령의 사법리스크를 가리기 위한 방탄벽, 그것이 지금 국회의 최우선 과제가 된 듯하다. 이런 국회를 과연 ‘의회’라고 부를 수 있는가.
국가 부채는 6,500조 원을 넘어 신기록을 달성했다. GDP 대비 총 부채 비율은 248%. 경제 규모의 2.5배가 빚이다. 이건 경고가 아니라 이미 위험 신호다. 정부 부채는 가계와 기업을 압도하며 더 빠르게 늘어나고 있다. 재정은 무너지고 있는데, 빚으로 생색내는 포퓰리즘만 난무한다. 야당 시절에는 예산을 잘라내며 나라를 멈춰 세우더니, 집권하자마자 견제 자체를 없애겠다고 한다. 이것은 정책이 아니라 권력 장악이다. 민주 시민의 상식은 이것을 민주주의가 아니라 절대 권력의 독재라고 부르는 것이다. 견제를 거부하는 순간, 민주주의는 끝난다.

진보, 부수 진영 수호와 재건이라는 낡아빠진 프레임에 집착할 것인가, 진영을 넘어 민주와 법치 수호의 반독재 연대를 새롭게 구축해 나갈 것인가? 깨어있는 시민과 상식의 정치세력, 우리 모두가 중대한 선택의 갈림길에 서 있다.
