[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 문화체육관광부와 한국공예·디자인문화진흥원이 주최·주관하는 ‘2026 찾아가는 공예명작전’ 영남권 순회전시 개최지로 최종 선정됐다고 25일 밝혔다.
찾아가는 공예명작전은 평소 접하기 어려운 우수 공예 작품을 비수도권 지역에 소개하는 국책 사업으로 지역 간 문화 격차 해소와 공예문화 확산을 위해 추진되고 있다.
진주시는 영남권 문화예술 거점 도시로서의 역할과 전시 인프라 역량을 인정받아 이번 순회전시 대상지로 선정되며 지역 문화 위상을 한층 높이는 계기를 마련했다.
이번 전시는 오는 10월 1일부터 11월 8일까지 39일간 진주철도문화공원 차량정비고에서 열리며 근대 산업유산 공간과 현대 공예가 어우러진 특별한 전시 환경을 선보일 예정이다.
전시 주제는 영남율려로 영남의 자연과 사람, 공예에 담긴 생동하는 리듬을 현대적으로 재해석해 약 30명의 작가와 70여 점의 작품이 참여하는 대규모 전시로 꾸며진다.
또 행사는 개막식과 작가와의 대화, 체험형 워크숍 등 다양한 부대행사가 함께 마련돼 시민과 관광객이 공예문화를 직접 체험하고 소통할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 계획이다.
진주시 관계자는 “이번 전시 유치가 유네스코 공예 및 민속예술 창의도시로서의 위상을 높이는 계기가 될 것이다”며“관광객과 시민들에게 수준 높은 문화 향유 기회를 제공하겠다”고 말했다.
