충청남도 보령시 소재 보령신항이 서해안권 중심 항만으로 거듭나기 위한 핵심 인프라 구축을 완료하며 새로운 도약의 발판을 마련했다.
충청남도는 최근 보령신항 내에 조성한 41만 9,000㎡ 규모의 준설토 투기장과 관리부두 축조 공사를 모두 마치고 최종 준공 검사를 완료했다고 26일 밝혔다.
이번 공사는 지난 2021년 착공한 이후 약 5년간 추진되었으며, 준설토 투기장에 710억 원, 관리부두에 508억 원 등 총 1,218억 원의 대규모 사업비가 투입되었다.
이번에 완공된 항만 인프라는 보령신항의 안전성과 운영 효율성을 크게 끌어올릴 핵심 시설로 평가받는다.
축구장 59개 넓이에 달하는 거대한 규모로 조성된 준설토 투기장은 보령화력발전소를 오가는 대형 선박들이 안전하게 통행할 수 있도록 바다 밑바닥을 파내는 과정에서 발생하는 흙과 모래를 매립하는 용도로 활용된다.
해당 준설 작업은 한국중부발전이 전담하며, 충청남도는 오는 2030년까지 이곳에 준설토 매립을 지속적으로 진행할 계획이다.
