원주시는 시민들에게 더욱 안전하고 쾌적한 교통 환경을 제공하기 위해 ‘구곡두산아파트 앞 교차로 개선공사’를 오는 4월 전격 착공한다고 27일 밝혔다.
이번 개선 사업의 핵심은 해당 구간을 ‘고원식 교차로’로 정비하는 것이다. 고원식 교차로는 횡단보도 부분을 보도와 같은 높이로 높여 차량의 감속을 자연스럽게 유도하는 시설이다. 특히 해당 구간은 지형상 내리막길이 이어져 과속 차량으로 인한 사고 위험이 높았던 곳으로, 이번 정비를 통해 차량 속도를 효과적으로 제어할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
