이번 사업은 학교 먹는 물의 안전성을 강화해 수질 오염으로 인한 집단사고를 예방하고, 성장기 학생들에게 건강한 교육환경을 조성하기 위해 추진된다. 연구원은 경상북도교육청 및 시·군 교육지원청과 협력해 사업을 진행하고 있다.
앞서 연구원은 지난 2~3월 교육청 및 교육지원청과 사전 협의를 마쳤으며, 3월부터 각 교육지원청의 검사 의뢰를 받아 분기 및 연간 단위로 수질검사를 실시하고 있다.
검사 항목은 학교 수질 특성에 따라 차등 적용된다. 정수기 통과수는 분기별로 일반세균과 총대장균군 등 2개 항목을 집중 점검하며, 상수도 미보급 학교의 지하수는 연 1회 46개 전 항목 정밀검사와 분기별 6개 주요 항목 검사를 병행해 관리한다.
연구원은 검사 결과를 신속히 학교에 통보하고, 부적합 판정 시 음용 중단과 시설 개선 등 후속 조치가 즉각 이뤄질 수 있도록 재검사 등 필요한 지원을 제공할 계획이다.
연구원 관계자는 “학교 먹는 물은 학생 건강과 직결되는 중요한 요소”라며 “이번 수질검사를 통해 학생들이 안심하고 물을 마실 수 있도록 철저히 관리하겠다”고 밝혔다.
