[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 주진우 국민의힘 의원이 28일 부산시장 당내 경선 선거사무소 개소식을 열고 “세대교체와 강한 추진력으로 부산 경제를 다시 뛰게 하겠다”며 본격적인 경선 행보에 돌입했다.
주 의원은 개소식에서 “부산은 대한민국의 끝이 아니라 세계로 뻗어가는 시작”이라며 “도시의 체질을 근본적으로 바꿔 젊고 역동적인 ‘글로벌 해양수도’로 재탄생시키겠다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “유지보다 변화, 말보다 결과가 중요한 시점”이라며 과감한 정책 추진을 예고했다.
그는 핵심 공약으로 부울경 통합과 대규모 재정 투입을 제시했다. 주 의원은 “부울경 메가시티를 통해 산업과 물류, 금융 기능을 결집하고 국비 50조 원을 조속히 확보해 부산 경제에 돈이 돌게 하겠다”며 “속도감 있는 집행으로 체감 가능한 변화를 만들겠다”고 강조했다. 특히 항만·물류 경쟁력 강화와 첨단 산업 유치, 청년 일자리 창출을 통해 지역 경제 구조를 혁신하겠다는 구상을 밝혔다.
현장에는 곽규택, 김대식, 김도읍, 김미애, 김희정, 박수영, 이성권, 조승환 의원과 유재중 전 의원 등 당내 주요 인사들이 참석했고, 당원과 시민 등 300여 명이 몰렸다. 서울과 경기 등 전국 각지에서 20·30 청년 지지자들도 참여해 세대교체론에 힘을 보탰다.
주 의원은 자신의 정치 이력도 강조했다. 그는 박근혜 정부 청와대 선임행정관 시절과 문재인 정부 당시를 언급하며 “권력에 굴하지 않고 원칙을 지키다 좌천되기도 한 ‘보수의 적자’”라고 밝혔다. 이어 “보수가 위기일수록 통합과 화합이 필요하다”며 “단수 공천 제안을 사양하고 경선을 선택한 것도 정정당당한 경쟁을 통해 승리하기 위한 결정”이라고 설명했다.

또 “민주당을 이길 후보는 안주하는 후보가 아니라 변화를 만들어낼 수 있는 강한 후보”라며 “개혁은 깨끗한 손으로 추진하고, 결과는 돌파력으로 만들어내야 한다”고 주장했다. 그는 “말뿐인 약속이 아니라 실질적 성과로 시민의 삶을 바꾸겠다”고 덧붙였다.
주 의원은 “부산의 자긍심을 되찾고 경제에 활력을 불어넣겠다”며 “시민이 체감하는 변화와 성장으로 부산의 새로운 시대를 열겠다”고 밝혔다.

BUSAN — Joo Jin-woo, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, on Saturday launched his campaign office for the party’s Busan mayoral primary, vowing to “revitalize Busan’s economy through generational change and strong execution.”
Joo said Busan should be seen “not as the end of South Korea, but as a starting point toward the world,” pledging to transform the city into a “global maritime capital” driven by youth and innovation. He stressed that “now is the time for change over stability and results over rhetoric.”
As a key policy vision, Joo proposed accelerating the integration of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region and securing 50 trillion won in national funding. He said the initiative would boost industrial, logistics and financial competitiveness while creating jobs and attracting advanced industries. “We will move with speed so that money flows through Busan’s economy and citizens feel real change,” he said.
The event drew about 300 supporters, including party members, local residents and young backers from across the country. Several party figures, including sitting and former lawmakers, attended to show support, underscoring Joo’s growing momentum in the primary race.
Joo also highlighted his political track record, referencing his service under former President Park Geun-hye and his stance during the administration of former President Moon Jae-in. He described himself as someone who has “stood at the forefront during crises in the conservative camp,” emphasizing principles and resistance to political pressure.
Calling for unity within the party, Joo said he rejected the possibility of a single-candidate nomination and instead chose to compete in the primary. “Division leads to defeat, while unity leads to victory,” he said.
Joo argued that defeating the Democratic Party would require “a candidate who delivers change, not one who settles for the status quo,” adding that reform must be driven by integrity and results. “I will prove my leadership not with words, but with outcomes,” he said.
He concluded by pledging to restore Busan’s pride and deliver tangible economic growth, saying he would “open a new era for the city through visible change and performance.”
