충주시는 ‘충주 시민참여의 숲 준공식’을 31일 오후 4시 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이날 준공식은 충주시민참여의 숲 추진위원회(위원장 임청)와 사단법인 충주숲(대표 이사 남득우), 충북사회복지공동모금회가 공동으로 추진했다.
이날 준공식에는 김진석 충주시장 권한대행을 비롯해 시민참여의 숲 조성에 아낌없는 정성과 관심을 보내준 기부자 및 시민들이 참석한 가운데 △사업 경과보고 △유공자 시상 등 순서에 이어 시민참여의 숲을 둘러보는 경관 감상 및 소망이 적힌 새순 달기 행사 등으로 진행됐다.
‘시민 참여의 숲’은 2024년 8월 발족된 시민 참여의 숲 추진위원회가 주도해 지난 10월 개방된 충주 시민의 숲 내 4,491㎡ 부지에 시민의 뜻과 손길을 모아 조성한 참여형 녹색공간이다.
특히, △시민의 자발적 참여로 모인 헌수금 약 4억1천만 원 △자식처럼 소중히 키워온 헌수목 636주 △지역사랑이 담긴 충주 고향사랑기부금 7억 원 등 충주시민의 정성과 마음을 모아 완성한 숲이라는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다.
시 관계자는 “시민 한분 한분의 마음이 모여 조성한 숲이 오래오래 지역의 자랑거리이자 휴식처가 될 수 있도록 세심히 관리하겠다”며, “시민이 주인인 충주의 상징적인 대표 명품 숲이 될 것을 기대한다”고 말했다.
