[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 전국 최대 규모의 꽃잔디를 자랑하는 산청 생초면에서 화려한 축제가 열린다.
보는 순간 탄성이 터져 나오는 생초면 꽃잔디는 눈이 부실 정도로 화사해 처음 보는 이들은 저도 모르게 감탄사를 연발한다.
특히 단일 크기로는 국내 최대인 3만여 ㎡ 규모의 언덕과 둑길을 뒤덮은 진분홍의 꽃잔디는 마치 융단을 펼쳐놓은 듯하다.
여기다 올해에는 3000㎡ 구간을 확장해 새롭게 선보여 더욱 알찬 즐거움을 선사할 예정이다.
부드럽고 따뜻해 보이는 꽃잔디 위를 걸을 순 없지만 주변에 잘 조성된 산책로를 따라 걷다 보면 마치 꽃잔디 카펫 위를 거니는 착각에 빠진다.
또 박항서 전 베트남 축구대표팀 감독의 고향답게 꽃잔디 일부는 축구공 모양으로 꾸며져 눈길을 사로잡는다.
공원을 찾은 이들은 저마다 축구공 모양 꽃잔디 앞과 액자 모양으로 꾸며진 포토존에서 인증샷 찍기에 여념이 없다.
산책로를 따라 오르면 꽃잔디에 머물렀던 눈길이 생초면을 감싸안고 흐르는 경호강으로 향한다.

◇제6회 산청 생초국제조각공원 꽃잔디 축제

산청군은 오는 4월 10일부터 19일까지 생초면 어서리 생초국제조각공원 일원에서 ‘제6회 산청 생초국제조각공원 꽃잔디 축제’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
생초국제조각공원은 ‘산청국제현대조각심포지엄’에 참여한 국내ㆍ외 유명 조각가의 현대조각품 20여 점과 가야시대 고분군이 어우러진 특색 있는 문화예술 공원이다.
3만㎡ 규모의 공원 터에는 화려한 꽃잔디가 만개, 분홍색 카펫이 깔린 야외미술관에 서 있는 듯한 이색적인 볼거리를 제공한다.
올해는 3000㎡ 구간을 새롭게 확장하고 12만본의 꽃잔디를 추가 식재해 화려함을 더했다.
또 훼손 구간에 5만본의 꽂잔디를 보식하는 등 색감과 식재 밀도를 높여 더욱 풍성하고 균형감과 입체감 있는 봄 경관을 선보인다.
이번 축제는 전시 및 체험행사를 비롯해 공연행사, 농특산물 판매장터 등 다양한 프로그램으로 구성해 상춘객들의 눈길을 사로잡을 예정이다.
먼저 가족 단위 방문객뿐만 아니라 젊은 층의 참여를 높이기 위해 산청군 관광캐릭터 산너머 친구들을 활용한 포토존을 마련했다.
포토존에서 사진을 찍고 SNS 등에 게재하면 추억 남기기와 함께 자연스러운 축제 홍보로 이어질 것으로 기대된다.
산청박물관에서는 선사시대 유물 전시와 산청 역사와 문화 전시를 통해 지역의 문화적 가치를 조명한다.
국립현대미술관 미술은행 소장품전과 ‘공(空)의 구축’ 전시를 연계한 체험프로그램도 이뤄지며 산청 출신으로 영화 기생충 대저택 내부 작품으로 알려진 박승모 작가를 비롯해 강덕봉, 모준석 등 총 7명의 작가 작품 9점도 만나볼 수 있다.
이와 함께 국가무형문화재 제108호 목조각장 목아 박찬수의 작품 전시와 체험프로그램, 농특산물 판매장터, 주말 버스킹 공연 등 다채로운 프로그램이 제공된다.

◇민물고기의 고장…늘비 물고기 마을
생초면은 예부터 ‘민물고기의 고장’으로 불려진다.
이는 그만큼 물고기가 많은 마을이었다는 것을 의미한다.
축제가 열리는 생초국제조각공원 일원에는 쏘가리 매운탕, 피리조림을 비롯해 꺽지, 붕어, 미꾸라지를 주재료로 하는 민물고기 전문식당이 즐비하다.
이에 이 일대를 ‘늘비 물고기마을’로 부르는데 늘비는 ‘여기저기 많이 늘어서 있거나 놓여 있다’라는 의미를 담고 있다.
이처럼 늘비 물고기 마을은 경호강의 발원지로 어족자원이 풍부해 민물고기 식당이 유명하다.
◇고대 가야시대 역사 간직한 생초 고분군
생초국제조각공원 상부에는 고대 삼국시대 가야문화의 역사를 엿볼 수 있는 생초 고분군이 자리하고 있다.
지난 1974년 경상남도 기념물 제7호로 지정된 ‘산청 생초 고분군’은 구릉 정상부에 20여 기의 고총고분, 구릉 사면에 수백여 기의 석곽묘가 분포하고 있다.
지난 2002년과 2004년 유물에 대한 발굴·조사에서 단경호와 장경호를 비롯한 각종 그릇과 항아리, 마구, 대도와 소도, 단봉문환두대도와 철모, 청동제 마령 등 수많은 유물이 출토됐다.
왜계의 청동거울 1점과 함께 여러 점의 왜계토기가 출토돼 당시 가야와 왜의 교류관계를 살펴볼 수 있는 중요한 역사적 자료가 되고 있다.
산청군 관계자는 “안전하고 원활한 축제 진행을 위해 교차로 및 주요 진입로에는 교통정리 인력과 행사장 내에는 안전관리 요원을 적정 인원으로 배치해 인파 밀집을 사전에 관리할 것”이라며 “비상 상황 발생 시 신속한 대응을 위한 현장 대응체계를 촘촘히 마련해 안전사고 예방과 방문객 편의 증진에 만전을 기하겠다”고 말했다.
