[Break News Yangju = Reporter Kim Wan-young] The inaugural meeting of the Pan-Citizens' Alliance for the Integration of Uijeongbu, Yangju, and Dongducheon in Gyeonggi Province will be held on Saturday, the 4th, at 10:30 AM at the Convention Hall of the Gyeonggi Textile Support Center.
The event is hosted by the Promotion Committee of the Pan-Citizens' Alliance for Uiyang-dong Integration and is planned to be held with the sponsorship of Forum K-Vision and Hope Yangju.
The integration of Uiyang-dong was originally part of the administrative district of Yangju-gun. The current system consists of three cities following the separation of Uijeongbu City in 1963, Dongducheon City in 1981, and Yangju City's elevation to city status in 2003; however, the integration has failed three times, starting in 2009. An official from the steering committee stated, "By establishing a special status city of one million people centered on Yangju City, which shares a common root, we will not only build administrative and financial foundations but also improve transportation convenience, increase real estate values, and enhance the quality of life for citizens as the central city of Northern Gyeonggi."
The recently discussed concept of a 'Megacity' goes beyond simply being a city with a large population; it refers to a regional administrative system at the metropolitan level that enhances competitiveness by linking surrounding areas into a single living and economic zone centered around a core hub city.
