시흥시, 클린에너지센터 캐나다 무역사절단 방문

[브레이크뉴스경기남부=시흥 이현준기자] 전 세계적으로 기후변화 대응과 친환경 에너지 전환이 핵심 과제로 떠오르는 가운데 시흥시 클린에너지센터가 국제적인 벤치마킹 대상 시설로 주목받고 있다.

시흥시는 캐나다 정부가 주관하는 팀 캐나다 무역사절단이 지난 31일 시흥시 클린에너지센터를 방문해 친환경 에너지 생산과 폐기물 처리 시스템을 견학했다고 밝혔다.

이번 방문에는 캐나다 클린에너지 분야 14개 기업의 관계자 30여 명이 참여해 시흥시의 에너지 전환 정책과 운영 사례를 확인하고 향후 기술 협력 가능성을 모색했다. 시흥시 정왕동 물환경센터 내에 위치한 클린에너지센터는 하수 찌꺼기와 음식물류 폐기물 및 분뇨 등을 통합 처리하는 국내 대표 바이오가스화 시설로 2024년에 준공됐다.

이곳은 폐기물 처리 과정에서 발생하는 메탄가스를 활용해 에너지를 생산함으로써 온실가스 감축과 자원순환을 동시에 실현하고 있다.

센터의 하루 바이오가스 생산량은 약 3만Nm³ 규모로 연간 약 19만 톤의 이산화탄소 저감 효과를 거두고 있으며 이는 나무 약 2,900만 그루가 1년간 흡수하는 양과 맞먹는 수준이다. 또한 연간 약 460만Nm³의 정제된 바이오가스를 도시가스로 공급하고 있으며 이는 약 8,283가구가 사용할 수 있는 에너지 규모다.
