이 예비후보는 “아이들이 참여를 통해 책임과 권리를 배우는 ‘살아있는 민주주의’를 만들겠다”며 “학교가 공동체 문제를 함께 해결하는 배움터가 되도록 하겠다”고 1일 밝혔다.
그는 제주4·3 사건과 관련해 “민주주의가 부재할 때 국가 권력이 시민의 삶과 존엄을 어떻게 훼손할 수 있는지를 보여주는 아픈 역사”라며 “같은 비극이 반복되지 않도록 학교에서 민주주의를 살아있는 가치로 체득하도록 해야 한다”고 강조했다.
이어 “학교는 학생들이 사람답게 살아가는 방식과 상호 존중의 가치를 배우는 공간”이라며 “의견을 제시하고 토론하며 스스로 선택하는 과정을 통해 주체적인 시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 해야 한다”고 말했다.
이와 함께 이 예비후보는 교육의 정치적 편향을 방지하고 균형 잡힌 시민교육을 위해 ‘민주시민교육 실천협약(경북형 보이텔스바흐협약)’ 제정을 추진하겠다고 밝혔다. 해당 협약은 정치·사회적 쟁점 교육에서 교사의 일방적 주입을 배제하고, 논쟁적 사안은 다양한 관점에서 다루며 학생의 자율적 판단과 참여를 보장하는 원칙을 담고 있다.
한편 이재명 대통령은 지난 3월 29일 제주에서 열린 4·3 희생자 유족과의 오찬에서 “제주 4·3의 완전한 명예회복을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”며 “국가폭력 범죄에 대한 민·형사상 시효 제도를 폐지해 영구 처벌이 가능하도록 하겠다”고 밝힌 바 있다.
이용기 예비후보는 31년간 중·고교 교사로 재직한 교육 현장 출신으로, 전국교직원노동조합 경북지부장을 역임했다. 현재 전국교육자치혁신연대 공동대표와 경북혁신교육연구소 공감 소장을 맡고 있으며, 지난해 12월 ‘경북교육희망 2026’ 경선을 통해 민주진보 단일후보로 선출됐다.

Preliminary candidate Lee Yong-gi is a veteran of the education field, having served as a middle and high school teacher for 31 years, and previously served as the head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union. He currently serves as the co-representative of the National Alliance for Educational Autonomy Innovation and the director of the Gyeongbuk Innovation Education Research Institute, Gonggam, and was elected as the unified democratic progressive candidate through the ‘Gyeongbuk Education Hope 2026’ primary last December.
