(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 부평구가 최근 부평의 오랜 숙원이었던 ‘장고개 도로’가 개통되면서 그동안 단절돼 구민 불편으로 이어졌던 부평 동서로의 교통 개선 기대감이 커지고 있다고 밝혔다.
부평구에 따르면 , ‘장고개 도로(산곡남중~주안장로교회)’는 지난 1일 총연장 660m, 왕복 6차로 규모로 개통됐다.
부평구는 캠프마켓에 막혀 17년간 돌아가야 했던 주민 불편이 해소되고, 지역 교통 흐름과 생활 편의가 크게 개선될 것으로 내다보고 있다.
앞서 장고개도로 사업은 2009년 실시설계용역 착수로 본격 추진됐으나, 캠프마켓 반환 지연으로 장기간 공사가 지연됐다.
이로 인해 인근 주민은 가까운 거리도 돌아가는 불편을 겪었고, 주변 도로의 상습 정체도 이어졌다.
이후 2023년 12월 캠프마켓이 완전 반환되면서 공사 추진이 가능해졌고, 2024년 4월 착공 이후 약 2년여의 사업을 추진한 끝에 장고개도로가 개통됐다.
도로가 개통되면서 산곡동~부평시장역까지의 이동 시간이 기존 15분에서 5분으로 크게 단축됐으며, 이를 환영하는 구민들의 목소리가 이어지고 있다.
50대 남성 이 모 씨는 “출퇴근 시간마다 막혀 불편이 컸는데 길이 뚫려 이동 시간이 크게 줄어들었다”고 말했고, 60대 여성 박 모 씨는 “단절됐던 동네가 다시 이어진 느낌이라 생활이 훨씬 편해진 것 같다”며 개통을 반겼다.
이와 관련, 부평구는 장고개 도로와 인접한 곳이자, 지역의 또 다른 숙원사업인 캠프마켓 부지 또한 구민들의 의견이 반영된 ‘역사·문화·생태가 어우러진 거점 공원’으로 조성될 수 있도록 힘을 모으기로 했다.
일제강점기 조병창부터 미군기지까지의 역사를 보존·활용하고, 대규모 녹지광장을 갖춘 시민 중심의 복합 휴식 공간으로 조성하는 것이 핵심이다.
부평구 관계자는 “이번 장고개 도로 개통이 캠프마켓으로 단절된 부평 동서 지역을 이어주면서 구민들의 생활 편의 및 교통난이 크게 개선될 것으로 기대된다”며 “이를 계기로 캠프마켓 또한 하루빨리 주민을 위한 공간으로 거듭날 수 있도록 인천시에 적극 건의하겠다”고 말했다.
