[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산 기장군이 항암치료로 탈모를 겪는 암환자의 심리적 부담을 덜기 위해 올해부터 가발 구입비 지원에 나선다.
기장군은 항암치료 과정에서 발생하는 탈모로 어려움을 겪는 암환자를 돕기 위해 ‘암환자 가발구입비 지원사업’을 시행한다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 기존 지원 사각지대를 해소하고 환자의 치료 의지를 높이기 위해 마련됐다.
그동안 소아 암환자는 의료비 지원을 통해 가발 구입비를 일부 지원받을 수 있었지만, 성인 암환자에 대한 별도 지원은 부족한 상황이었다. 이에 기장군은 관련 조례를 제정하고 지역 실정에 맞는 지원책을 마련했다.
지원 대상은 신청일 기준 1년 이상 기장군에 주민등록을 두고 실제 거주하는 암환자 가운데 항암치료로 탈모가 발생한 경우다. 가발 구입비는 1인 1회에 한해 최대 70만 원까지 지원된다. 다만 다른 법령이나 조례에 따라 동일한 지원을 받은 경우는 제외된다.
신청을 원하는 대상자는 탈모로 가발 착용이 필요하다는 내용이 포함된 1년 이내 의사소견서와 가발 구입 영수증, 통장 사본을 지참해 기장군보건소를 방문하면 된다.
기장군 관계자는 “항암치료 중 겪는 외모 변화는 환자에게 큰 부담이 될 수 있다”며 “이번 지원이 환자의 자존감 회복과 치료 의지 향상에 도움이 되기를 기대한다”고 말했다.

Gijang County will begin providing financial support for wig purchases this year to help ease the psychological burden of cancer patients experiencing hair loss during chemotherapy.
Gijang County announced that it will implement a “Wig Purchase Support Program for Cancer Patients” to assist those suffering from hair loss caused by chemotherapy. The initiative aims to address existing support gaps and strengthen patients’ willingness to continue treatment.
Previously, while pediatric cancer patients could receive partial support for wig purchases through medical expense aid, adult patients had limited access to such assistance. In response, the county established a relevant ordinance to provide practical support tailored to local needs.
Eligible applicants are cancer patients who have been registered residents of Gijang County for at least one year and are currently living there, and who have experienced hair loss due to chemotherapy. The program offers a one-time subsidy of up to 700,000 won per person. However, individuals who have already received similar support under other laws or ordinances are excluded.
Applicants must submit a medical opinion issued within the past year confirming the need for a wig due to chemotherapy-induced hair loss, along with a wig purchase receipt and a copy of their bank account, at the Gijang County Public Health Center.
A county official said, “Physical changes during chemotherapy can be a significant emotional burden for patients,” adding, “We hope this support will help restore patients’ self-esteem and encourage their commitment to treatment.”
