[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 경남 고성군이 갈모봉 자연휴양림을 중심으로 한 산림레포츠시설 조성사업을 본격 추진하며 체험형 산림휴양 공간 조성에 나선다. 군은 지난 3월 실시설계용역 등 행정절차에 착수하며 사업을 본궤도에 올렸다.
이번 사업은 2026년부터 2027년까지 2년간 총사업비 50억 원을 투입해 추진되며, 기존의 정적인 산림휴양 기능에 활동성과 체험 요소를 결합하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있다. 이를 통해 갈모봉 자연휴양림을 관광·휴양·레포츠가 어우러진 복합 공간으로 확장할 계획이다.
갈모봉 자연휴양림은 2018년 자연휴양림으로 지정된 이후 단계적으로 시설을 확충해 왔다. 2024년 숲이그린집과 숲이그린도서관 개장에 이어 2025년에는 숙박시설을 14동으로 확대 재개장하며 본격적인 운영에 들어갔다.

이용객도 크게 증가했다. 2024년 8천여 명 수준이던 방문객은 2025년 2만3천여 명으로 늘어나며 자연 속 휴식을 찾는 수요 증가를 반영했다. 현재 휴양림은 숙박뿐 아니라 독서, 휴식, 체험이 가능한 복합 힐링 공간으로 자리잡고 있다.
숲해설과 유아숲체험 프로그램 등 체험형 콘텐츠도 꾸준히 운영되고 있으며, 올해부터는 힐링 트레킹과 숲 요가 프로그램이 새롭게 추가됐다. 무인카페와 무인판매기, 남해 바다 전망 공간 등 편의시설도 확충돼 이용 만족도를 높이고 있다.
이번 산림레포츠시설 조성사업의 핵심은 ‘하늘편백숲길’ 스카이워크와 트리탑 전망대 조성이다. 방문객이 숲 위를 직접 걸으며 자연을 체험하고, 탁 트인 경관을 감상할 수 있도록 해 기존 휴양 중심 공간에서 체험형 공간으로 전환을 꾀한다.
