동구는 14일 도동 803번지 일원에서 추진한 복원사업이 마무리됐다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업에는 총 2억4천500만 원이 투입됐다. 구는 내년부터 후계목을 체계적으로 양성하고, 숲길을 새로 조성하는 한편, 자생식물을 심는 등 다양한 생태계 복원 작업을 시행했다. 이를 통해 측백나무군락의 지속가능성이 크게 높아지고, 교육 및 휴식 공간으로서의 기능도 강화됐다는 평가가 나오고 있다.
복원사업은 기존 측백나무 군락의 생육환경 개선에 초점을 맞췄다. 인근 수목의 수관 밀도를 조절해 햇빛이 더 잘 들어오도록 했으며, 후계목이 안정적으로 자랄 수 있는 환경을 조성했다.
주민 이용 편의성도 높였다. 숲 내부에는 산책과 관찰이 가능한 탐방로를 마련하고, 지역 자생식물인 구절초를 곳곳에 식재했다. 또, 측백나무를 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 교육용 안내판을 설치했으며, 방문객이 쉴 수 있는 정자도 새로 조성했다. 이 밖에도 구간별로 포장 및 표지 정비가 이뤄져 보행 안전성 역시 강화됐다.
김태운 동구청장 권한대행은 “도동 측백나무숲을 한층 쾌적하게 정비해 주민들이 지역 문화유산을 더 가까이서 즐길 수 있게 됐다”며 “더 많은 주민이 자연과 문화를 함께 누리길 바란다”고 말했다.
