15일 홍천군에 따르면, 군은 홍천읍 하오안리(산130-4 일원)에 위치한 홍천군 추모공원 내에 총면적 1,828㎡ 규모의 산분장지 조성을 완료하고 이날부터 정식 운영에 돌입했다고 밝혔다.

'산분장'은 화장한 고인의 유골(골분)을 일정한 구역에 뿌려 장사를 지내는 자연장의 한 형태로, 올해 1월부터 법제화되어 주목받고 있는 친환경 장례 방식이다. 군은 유족들에게 쾌적하고 품위 있는 추모 환경을 제공하기 위해 부지 내에 수목을 식재하고 추모 쉼터 등 다양한 편의시설을 완비했다.
산분장지 사용 자격은 사망일 기준 홍천군에 1년 이상 주민등록을 두고 실거주한 자를 비롯해, 그 부모, 배우자, 자녀에게 주어진다. 또한, 사망일 기준 홍천군에 주민등록이 되어 있는 국가유공자(관련 법률 제4조)도 이용할 수 있다.
