구미시, 관외 대학생 통학 교통비 지원 확대…연 최대 20만원 정액 지급

시는 올해 사업비 5천만 원을 투입해 관외 대학으로 통학하는 지역 청년들의 교통비를 지원한다고 밝혔다. 기존 제도는 실제 사용액을 정산하는 방식으로 운영돼 영수증 제출 등 신청 절차가 복잡하고, 이용 교통수단에 따라 지원 규모 차이가 발생하는 한계가 있었다.

이번 개편으로 지원 방식은 연 최대 20만 원 정액 지급으로 변경됐다. 지원 대상 교통수단도 기존 철도 이용자 중심에서 시외·고속버스 이용자까지 확대돼 보다 많은 학생들이 혜택을 받을 수 있게 됐다.

증빙서류 역시 대폭 줄었다. 기존에는 학기 중 사용한 영수증을 모두 제출해야 했지만, 앞으로는 통학 사실을 확인할 수 있는 영수증 5매만 제출하면 된다.

지원 대상은 구미시에 6개월 이상 거주한 19세부터 39세까지의 관외 통학 대학(원)생이다. 상반기 신청은 5월부터 6월까지 진행되며, ‘청년e끌림’ 홈페이지를 통해 온라인 접수할 수 있다. 지원금은 상·하반기 각각 10만 원씩, 연간 최대 20만 원이 카드형 구미사랑상품권으로 지급된다.

해당 사업은 지난해 ‘철도교통비 지원사업’으로 494명에게 총 4,200만 원을 지원한 바 있다. 시는 올해 지원 방식 개선과 대상 확대를 통해 더 많은 청년들이 실질적인 혜택을 받을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

정성현 구미시장 권한대행은 “정액 지원과 절차 간소화를 통해 청년들이 보다 편리하게 혜택을 받을 수 있도록 했다”며 “통학 부담을 줄여 학업에 집중할 수 있는 환경을 지속적으로 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.
