브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 노웅래 더불어민주당 최고위원은 6일 "손흥민은 되는데 왜 BTS는 안 되냐. 밥 딜런은 노벨문학상도 받는데 왜 우리는 딴따라로만 보냐"며 방탄소년단(BTS)의 병역특례를 거듭 주장했다.
노 최고위원은 이날 MBC 라디오 '김종배의 시선집중'에서 "산업기술인력이나 전문연구인력, 예술인, 체육인들을 대상으로 (병역특례가) 실시가 되고 있는데 지금 유독 대중문화를 하는 분들에 대해서만 적용이 안 되고 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
노 최고위원은 "지금은 밥 딜런이 노벨 문학상을 받는 시대인데 대중문화란 이유로 옛날 식으로 딴따라로 폄하해서 제외해도 된다는 논리는 과거 잣대에서 보는 것"이라며 "한류의 대표가 BTS이고 미래전략산업의 대표라고 할 수 있는데 (병역특례에서) 제외한다면 제도의 입법취지와도 안 맞는다"고 강조했다.
이어 "퓨전의 시대, 그리고 장르가 지금 구분이 안 되는 이 시대에 대중음악을 너무 폄하하는 것 아니냐"며 "그럼 나훈아는 왜 추석 때 그렇게 인기를 끌었고 멋지게 평가를 받느냐"고 반문했다.
BTS 멤버들 스스로가 군대에 가겠다고 밝힌데 대해선 "기본적으로 국방의 의무인데 자기가 안 간다고 얘기한다면 우리 국민이길 포기하는 것이다. 당연히 당사자는 간다고 얘기하는 게 맞는 것"이라며 "저희는 제3자 입장에서 국익에 어떤 게 더 도움이 되느냐는 측면에서 검토할 필요가 있다"고 했다.
노 최고위원은 또 "병역면제는 병역을 완전히 면해주는 것이고 병역특례는 국가가 정한 분야에서 일정한 기간 동안 요건에 맞게끔 일해야만 군복무를 하는 것으로 인정하는 것이어서 면제랑은 다른 것"이라고 설명했다.
공정성 문제와 관련해선 "논란의 여지가 있는 것은 2002년 월드컵 때 1분 뛰고도 사실상 병역특례를 받은 선수가 있었다. 특례도 군복무지만 그 분야에서 활동할 수 있기 때문에 군복무하는 사람이랑 차이가 있는데 어떻게 이게 공정한 것이냐는 문제제기가 있었다"며 "국민적 공감대가 필요하고 국민정서와 직접적으로 민감하게 관련이 있는 부분"이라고 했다.
