브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 추미애 법무부장관이 11일 한길리서치 대권주자 지지도 여론조사에 윤석열 검찰총장 1위로 오른데 대해 "대권 1위 후보로 등극했으니 차라리 사퇴하고 정치를 해야 하지 않나 생각한다"고 밝혔다.
추 장관은 이날 국회 예결위 전체회의에서 월성원전 1호기 조기 폐쇄 의혹을 놓고 검찰이 강제수사에 착수한 것과 관련 "대전지검이 전광석화처럼 수사하는 이유가 있느냐. 사건과 관련없는 일도 광범위하게 수사하고 있다"는 양이원영 더불어민주당 의원의 질의에 "다분히 정치적 목적의 수사라고 여겨진다"며 이같이 답했다.
그는 "윤 총장이 서울중앙지검장으로 재직했던 2018년과 2019년 사이 동일 사안을 중앙지검이 3건 각하를 한 적이 있다. 중앙지검 이외 대구와 경주 등에서도 동일 사안이 제기됐는데 또 3건이 각하됐다"면서 "경제성, 안정성을 고려한 정책판단과 선택의 문제이기 때문에 임무위배행위라고 보기 어렵다는 사유로 혐의없음 처분을 내렸다"고 설명했다.
이어 "본인이 중앙지검 재직 때 각하 처분한 것을, 정치적 야망을 표명한 이후에 수사한 것은 국민들이 생각하기에도 정치적 목적 수사라고 생각하지 않을 수 없다"면서 "이것은 명백히 권력형 비리도 아닌데 대대적인 압수수색을 단행하거나 감사원에서 문제 삼지 않은 청와대 비서관까지 겨냥해 청와대까지 조국 전 장관처럼 무분별한 압수수색을 한다면 커다란 정권 차원의 비리가 있는 것으로 보일 소지가 있는 것"이라고 설명했다.
추 장관은 "검찰공무원의 정치적 중립은 생명"이라며 "가장 검찰을 중립적으로 이끌어가야 할 장본인이 정치 야망을 드러내면서 대권 후보 행보를 하는 것에 대해 언론의 책임도 굉장히 크다"고 비판했다.
추 장관은 또한 "어떤 제도든, 어떤 정책이든 정치적 상상력과 창의력으로 미래 비전을 가지고 끌고 나가야 하는데 그 과정 중에 있던 것을 검찰 수사 대상으로 하게 된다면 검찰이 정책을 주도하는 것이고 검찰공화국이 되는 것"이라며 "주권재민이 아니라 주권이 검찰 손에 놀아나는 것"이라고 지적했다.
특히 "이렇게 한다는 것은 정부를 공격하는 것이고, 정부의 민주적 시스템에 대한 편파·과잉 수사가 아니라고 할 수 없게 된 상황에 이르렀다"고 했다.
그러면서 "선거사무를 관장하는 중앙선거관리위원장이 대선후보 1위라고 하면 국민이 납득하겠느냐"고 거듭 윤 총장을 비판했다.
