브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 러시아 야권 지도자 알렉세이 나발니의 독극물 중독을 치료해준 러시아 의사가 돌연 사망했다.
CNN에 따르면 4일(현지시간) 러시아 중남부 옴스크 지역의 옴스크 병원은 세르게이 막시미신(55) 박사가 사망했다고 밝혔다.
병원측은 "이 병원에서 28년 동안 근무하며 수천 명의 생명을 구한 막시미신 박사가 갑자기 세상을 떠났다"고 전하면서 사망 원인은 밝히지 않았다.
이에 나발니의 측근인 레오니트 볼코프는 나발니를 살려냈다는 이유로 살인됐을 가능성을 배제할 수 없다고 주장했다.
볼코프는 "막시미신 박사는 나발니를 치료한 응급실의 책임자로, 특히 혼수상태에 빠졌을 때 치료를 담당했다"며 "누구보다 나발니의 상태를 잘 알고 있었기 때문에 살인 가능성도 배제할 수 없다"고 했다. 그러면서 "이 연령대의 의사가 갑자기 사망하는 일은 흔한 일이 아니다. 그의 죽음과 관련해 어떠한 조사도 실시되지 않을 거라 생각된다"고 덧붙였다.
한편 나발니는 작년 8월20일 항공편을 이용해 시베리아에서 모스크바로 이동하던 중 독극물 '노비촉'에 중독됐다. 항공기는 옴스크에 긴급착륙했고, 나발니를 옴스크 병원으로 옮겨 치료했다.
막시미신 박사는 나발니 입원 당시 그를 치료한 의료진 중 한 명으로 응급 치료를 전담했고, 나발니는 이후 독일 베를린으로 옮겨져 5달 동안 더 치료를 받았다.
나발니측은 러시아 연방보안국과 푸틴 대통령이 자신에 대한 독극물 암살을 시도했다고 주장했지만 러시아 정부는 이를 전면 부인했다.
지난달 나발니는 러시아로 입국, 공항에서 곧바로 체포됐고 횡령 혐의에 대한 집행유예 판결 의무를 어겨 징역형을 받았다.

Meanwhile, Navalni was addicted to the poison ‘Nobichok’ while traveling from Siberia to Moscow by air on August 20 last year. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Omsk, and Navalni was transferred to Omsk Hospital for treatment.
Dr. Maximisin was one of the medical staff who treated him when he was admitted to Navalni, who was in charge of emergency treatment, and Navalni was later transferred to Berlin, Germany, where he was treated for another five months.
Navalni claimed that the Russian Federal Security Agency and President Putin had attempted to assassinate him with poison, but the Russian government denied it.
Navalni arrived in Russia last month, was immediately arrested at the airport and was sentenced to imprisonment for violating his duty of probation on charges of embezzlement.
