경북교육청(교육감 임종식)이 예천중학교 양궁부에서 발생한 학교폭력 사안 및 학교 운동부 운영에 대한 특별 점검을 통해 양궁장 내 CCTV 설치를 추진한다고 밝혔다.
지난 4일 경북 예천의 한 중학교에서 코치가 잠시 자리를 비운 사이 3학년 학생이 3m 정도 거리에 있는 1학년 후배에게 활을 쏜 사건이 발생해 논란이 일었다.
피해자인 1학년 학생의 등에는 움푹 패인 상처가 남았고, 일주일 넘게 병원 치료를 받은 것으로 알려졌다.

이에 경북교육청은 피해 학생을 보호하고, 학교운동부 안전관리 대책 및 향후 재발을 방지하기 위해 지난 24일부터 예천교육지원청과 합동으로 특별점검에 나섰다.
경북교육청과 예천교육지원청은 학교운동부 내 추가 학교폭력 실태 조사, 학교운동부 지도자 근무실태, 학교운동부 안전 관리 등을 점검하고 향후 대책과 양궁장 내 CCTV 설치·운영 확보 방안, 학교운동부 학교폭력 실태 진단 방법, 학교 외 전문 상담 기관을 통한 상담 지원 방법 등을 논의했다.
특히 양궁장 내 CCTV를 지자체와 협조해서 설치하기로 했으며, 학교운동부 학교 폭력 실태진단을 정례화하고, 조사관을 학교 외 전문가도 함께 포함시켜 개선하기로 하였으며 아울러 피해 학생 보호를 위해 예천교육지원청 Wee센터와 협의해 지속적인 상담을 지원할 계획이다.
임종식 교육감은 “이번 사안에 대한 심각성을 깊이 인식하고 학교운동부 내 어떠한 폭력도 용인할 수 없다”며“철저한 진상 조사를 통한 관련자에 대한 엄중 조치와 학교운동부 내 학교폭력 및 안전사고 방지를 위하여 최선의 노력을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
