대구사이버대학교(총장 이근용)는 국민의힘 홍석준 국회의원(대구 달서구갑)과 대학발전을 위한 간담회를 개최했다.
27일 진행된 이날 간담회에는 이근용 총장, 홍석준 국회의원을 비롯한 대학관계자 10여명이 참석해 국가 지역균형발전과 지역 대학의 과제, 정부지원 정책과 사이버대학의 역할 등 온택트 시대 온라인 교육 활성화를 위한 의견제시 등 여러 현안에 대해 심도 있게 논의했다.

간담회 직후 대구대학교 특수교육박물관, 영광교회, 점자출판박물관, KPACE(케이페이스·아시아 최초 발달장애인 고등교육기관) 등을 차례로 방문해 장애인 교육의 역사, 특히 발달장애인의 고등교육 등에 대해 활발히 의견을 나눈 이들은 향후 우리나라 특수교육의 시작이자 세계 유일 장애 영역별 군집된 대명동 캠퍼스 5개 특수학교를 방문하기로 약속하기도 했다.
홍석준 의원은 “영광학원이 특수교육의 요람인 것은 이미 알았지만 독립만세운동으로 옥고를 치르신 독립유공자 이영식 목사님이 설립 한 재단이라는 사실에 놀랐다”며 “그 후손인 이근용 총장이 민족 사학의 정신을 바탕으로 소외된 사람들을 위한 대구 경북 4년제 유일 사이버 특성화대학이란 것도 소상히 알게 되었다. 앞으로도 독도 알리기 캠페인 등 국가와 민족을 위한 애국활동에도 지속적으로 노력해주길 바란다”고 말했다.
이에 이 총장은 “독도의용수비대 홍순칠 의사의 정신을 바탕으로 영토 수호의 의지를 고취시키기 위해 대학과 함께 독도 캠페인을 허락해준 홍석준 의원께 진심으로 감사드린다”며 “우리 대학이 2017년부터 꾸준히 제작한 독도 영상들이 국민들은 물론 전세계인들에 큰 감동을 주고 있는 만큼 책임감을 가지고 독도 주권을 지키기 위한 캠페인에 최선의 노력을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

In response, President Lee said, “I sincerely thank Congressman Hong Seok-jun for allowing the Dokdo campaign together with the university to inspire the will to defend the territory based on the spirit of Doctor Hong Soon-chil of the Dokdo Volunteer Guards.
