대구광역시교육청(교육감 강은희)가 유치원 무상급식 및 중·고등학교 무상교복 지원 전면시행을 위해 나선다.

대구시교육청은 대구광역시 및 구·군, 대구광역시의회와 함께 오는 29일 오전 11시 대구시청에서 오는 2022년 유치원 무상급식 및 중·고등학교 무상교복 지원 전면 시행을 위한 협약을 체결한다고 밝혔다.
대구시교육청은 전국에서 가장 늦게 고등학교 무상급식을 실시한데 이어 유치원 무상급식 역시 타지자체에 비해 다소 느리게 추진하고 있어 논란이 된 바 있다.
이 가운데 대구시교육청이 이번 협약으로 적극적인 행동에 나섬에 따라 2022년 기준 3만 4천 9백여명의 유치원생이 양질의 유치원 급식을 제공받게 되며 이와 함께 학부모의 부담도 줄어들 것으로 기대된다.
또한 2021년부터 실시되고 있는 중학교 신입생 무상교복 지원에 이어 2022년부터 대구시 관내 고등학교 신입생에게도 동복과 하복 각 1벌씩을 현물로 지원됨에 따라 2022년 기준 중·고등학교 신입생 약 4만명이 혜택을 받게 되는 것으로 알려진다.
