허경영 국가혁명당 대선(大選) 후보가 ‘나라에 돈이 없는 게 아니라 도둑이 많다.’고 소신을 밝혀 온 것에 대해 화답하듯이, 대학 교수들이 2021년 올해의 사자성어로 '묘서동처(猫鼠同處)'를 선정했다.
국가혁명당 공보실 측은 13일자 보도자료에서 “고양이와 쥐가 함께 있다는 뜻으로 '도둑을 잡아야 할 사람이 도둑과 한패가 된 것'을 비유한 사자성어(四子成語)다. LH 부정부패 사태와 정치권의 갈등, 연이은 부동산 문제 등을 비판하는 의미”라고 전하면서 “허경영 후보는 일찍이 '묘서동처(猫鼠同處)'를 설파하고 국회의원 정신교육대 보내고 구태정치와 부패에 연루된 구시대 인사들도 정신교육대에 보내겠다고 공개적으로 밝혀왔다. 지난 12월 12일 교수신문은 11월 26일부터 지난 2일까지 전국 대학교수 880명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시한 결과 '묘서동처'가 득표율 29.2%로 올해의 사자성어에 꼽혔다고 밝혔다”고 전했다.
김동주 국가혁명당 기획조정실장은 ”다가오는 2022년 3월 9일 대선(大選)을 앞두고 올해를 마무리하며 교수들이 '묘서동처(猫鼠同處)'를 선정한 것은, 도둑을 잡아야 할 직분을 망각하고 도둑과 뒷거래 하는 구태를 국민들이 더 이상 용납해서는 안 된다는 것을 시사한다.“며 ”최근 파죽지세로 안철수와 심상정 후보를 제치고 여론조사 3위로 랭크되고 20~30연령대와 일부 지역에서는 2강인 윤석열과 이재명을 위협하고 있는 허경영 후보 지지 민심(民心)이 '묘서동처(猫鼠同處)' 혁파를 요청하고 있다.“고 말했다. '묘서동처(猫鼠同處)'는 중국 당나라 역사를 기록한 '구당서'와 신당서'에 등장하는 사자성어다. 한 지방 군인이 집에서 고양이와 쥐가 같은 젖을 빤다는 '묘서동유(猫鼠同乳)'라는 말과 함께 등장한다. 쥐는 굴을 파고 곡식을 훔쳐먹고, 고양이는 쥐를 잡는 존재인데 벼슬아치들이 부정과 결탁해 나쁜 짓을 저지르는 말을 일컫는다.
'구당서'에서는 낙주의 조귀라는 사람이 집에서 쥐와 고양이가 같은 젖을 빨고 해치지 않는 모습을 보고 고양이와 쥐를 임금에게 바쳤다. 아부를 일삼는 대부분 관리들은 상서로운 일이라고 했지만 최우보라는 강직한 관리만 "이것들이 실성했다"고 한탄했다고 한다.
이 사자성어를 추천한 최재목 영남대 교수는 "각처 또는 여야 간에 입법, 사법, 행정의 잣대를 의심하며 불공정하다는 시비가 끊이질 않았다"며 "국정을 엄정하게 책임지거나 공정하게 법을 집행하고 시행하는 데 감시할 사람들이 이권을 노리는 사람들과 한통속이 돼 이권에 개입하거나 연루된 상황을 수시로 봤다"고 설명했다.
'묘서동처(猫鼠同處)'를 지지한 교수들의 선정 이유 중에서도 '권력자들이 한패가 되어 부정을 저지르고 있다'는 내용이 주를 이뤘다. 한 70대 인문학 교수는 다산 정약용의 우화시 '이노행'을 인용하며 "단속하는 자와 단속받는 자가 야합하면 못 할 짓이 없다"고 지적했다. 또 다른 60대 인문학 교수는 "‘초록은 동색’이라는 말처럼 정치 지도자들의 행태는 여야를 막론하고 겉모습만 다를 뿐, 공리보다는 사욕에 치우쳤다"고 말했다.
내년 대선을 걱정하는 의미에서 '묘서동처'를 택한 교수들도 있다. 한 40대 교수는 "누가 덜 썩었는가 경쟁하듯, 리더로 나서는 이들의 도덕성에 의구심이 가득하다"고 했고, 60대 사회학 교수는 “상대적으로 덜 나쁜 후보를 선택해 국운을 맡겨야 하는 상황"이라고 평가했다.
