창원시, 의창노인종합복지관 증축공사

[브레이크뉴스=이성용기자] 창원시는 17일 의창구 명서동에서 지역 어르신들의 숙원사업이었던 ‘의창노인종합복지관 증축공사’의 기공식을 개최했다.

이날 기공식에는 허성무 창원시장, 박완수 국회의원, 도·시의원, 노인단체 대표 및 지역주민 등 90여 명이 참석했다.

지난 2011년에 건립된 ‘의창노인종합복지관’은 최근 급격히 늘어나는 노인 복지 수요를 충족시키기 위해 국·도·시비, 44억여 원의 사업비를 들여 기존 건물 부지 내에 지상 2층, 1,526㎡의 면적을 별동으로 증축하여 전체면적 약 6,400㎡ 규모인 지역거점형 노인종합복지관의 면모를 갖추게 된다.

증축건물은 그동안 고질적인 주차난을 해소하기 위해 건물의 1층을 필로티 주차장으로 설치해 부지 내 주차면수를 추가로 확보하고, 이용자 수 대비 협소한 다목적강당, 프로그램실을 별도로 설치하는 등 노인복지공간의 확충으로 지역 어르신들이 좀 더 쾌적한 환경에서 다양한 복지프로그램을 이용하게 될 것으로 기대된다.

의창노인종합복지관 별동은 기공식을 시작으로 본격적인 공사에 들어가면 약 15개월간의 공사기간을 거쳐 2023년 상반기부터 증축된 시설의 이용이 가능할 것으로 예상된다.

허성무 창원시장은 “그간 국가와 지역사회 발전을 위해 헌신적으로 애쓰며 살아오신 어르신들이 계셨기에 지금의 우리가 있을 수 있었다”며 “어르신들이 지금보다 더 편리하고 쾌적한 환경에서 지역사회의 다양한 주체들과 소통하며 행복한 노년생활을 누릴 수 있는 공간을 만들어 드리도록 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.
