전국시도교육감협의회 최교진 회장(세종특별자치시교육감)이 지난 3일 지방교육재정 안정화를 요구하는 입장문을 발표했다.
최교진 협의회장은 입장문을 통해 “최근 기획재정부와 일부 언론이 지방교육재정교부금율을 낮추어야 한다는 주장을 하고 있어 시도교육감들이 크게 걱정하고 있다.”면서 “코로나 19 상황에서 우리 어린 학생들을 보호하기 위해서도 그리고 우리나라의 미래를 책임질 학생들의 올곧은 성장을 위해서도 지방교육재정교부금은 안정적으로 확보되어야 한다”고 강력히 요구했다.
그는 “학생 수가 감소하므로 그에 따라 지방교육재정도 줄여야 한다는 논리는 너무나 단순한 경제논리일 뿐”이라고 꼬집으며 “그동안 학생 수는 꾸준히 줄어들었지만 학급과 학교 수는 늘어났으며 코로나 19 상황에서 학생 간에 거리두기를 통한 방역을 위해서는 앞으로 막대한 교육재정이 추가로 투자되어야 한다”고 설명했다.
