[브레이크뉴스=이성용기자] 창원시는 22일 오후 3시 성산구 양곡동 봉산마을 공영주차장에서 ‘양곡천 생태하천복원사업’ 착공식을 개최했다.
이날 행사에는 주민자치회장, 새마을협의회장 및 바르게살기협의회장 등 많은 주민들과 인근 양곡초등학교장 등 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다.
양곡천 생태하천복원사업은 양곡동 양곡삼거리에서 남천 합류점까지 총 1.8km 구간에 총사업비 76억 원을 투입해 하천 내 콘크리트 바닥을 제거하고 수생식물 식재 및 생태서식처를 조성하는 등 생태하천으로 복원하는 동시에, 홍수에 대비한 홍수 방어벽 설치 등 주민의 안전을 위한 치수사업도 병행할 계획이며 2023년 12월 마무리될 계획이다.
시는 2016년부터 생태환경이 훼손된 양곡천에 대해 수생태계 건강성 회복과 동시에 시민들의 휴식공간 제공을 목표로 처음 시작하게 되었고 이후 환경부 및 경남도와 수생태계 복원계획, 하천기본계획 변경 등 행정절차를 거쳐 지난해 10월 실시설계를 완료하고 이날 착공식을 개최하게 됐다.
또한, 시는 2010년 이후 창원천, 남천, 산호천, 삼호천, 장군천, 교방천, 봉림천 등 7개 하천 25.41km 구간에 대한 생태하천 복원사업을 완료했다. 현재 진해구 대장소사천 생태하천복원사업도 오는 10월 준공을 목표로 순조롭게 사업을 진행하고 있는 등 생태하천복원사업의 선두도시로 발돋움하고 있다.
