브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 홍준표 국민의힘 의원은 25일 윤석열 후보와 안철수 국민의당 후보간 단일화와 관련 "본인들이 1:1로 만나서 풀어야 할 문제"라고 밝혔다.
홍준표 의원은 이날 대구 중·남구 국회의원 보궐선거에 무소속으로 출마한 도건우 후보의 출정식에 참석한 자리에서 기자들과 만나 "(일반적인 방법으로 단일화가 성사되기엔) 시간이 너무 촉박하지 않나"라며 이같이 말했다.
그는 "단일화가 성사되려면 물 밑에서 다 이뤄져야 하는데, 물 밑 작업이 진행되기도 전에 서로 삿대질을 하고 있지 않나"라며 "제가 볼 땐 작년 12월부터 올해 1월 초 사이 서로 조율해서 한 사람만 출마했어야 한다"고 주장했다.
홍 의원은 현재로선 단일화 걸림돌이 많은 상태라고 분석했다. 그는 "안 후보 입장에선 이번에 발을 잘못 빼면 '철수 전문'으로 남아버리니 그 트라우마 때문에 쉽게 발 빼기가 어렵다"며 "또 지금 상당히 난감한 상황인 게 두 사람 다 출마했기 때문에 자리를 약속하면 선거법 위반이다"라고 설명했다.
후보 사퇴에 따른 대가로 공천권 보장이나 차기정부 주요직을 약속한다면, 후보사퇴 이익 교부 로 형사처벌을 받아야 하는 범죄행위라는 것이다.
그는 "지금은 사퇴한다면 (이유없이) 무조건 사퇴해야 한다. 그런데 안철수 후보가 지금 무조건 사퇴할 수 있는 입장이냐. 서로가 참 어설프게 단일화를 추진했다"고 꼬집었다.
홍 의원은 아울러 청년과의 소통플랫폼인 '청문홍답'에서 한 질문자가 "이태규 국민의당 총괄선대본부장은 기자회견, 이준석의 도넘는 발언에 뒷거래 폭로와 안철수 음해 조롱이 도가 지나치다. 단일화는 지들이 거절해놓고 왜저러나'라고 지적하자, "민주당은 연일 정치개혁, 통합정부론을 부르짖는데 우리당은 단일화로 매일 우리끼리 서로 싸우고만 있으니 국민들이 어떻게 볼지"라는 답을 남기기도 했다.

Rep. Hong Joon Pyo met with reporters at the inauguration ceremony of candidate Do Gun-woo, who ran independently in the by-election of the National Assembly in Jung-gu and Nam-gu, Daegu, and said, "Isn't time too tight (for unification to take place)."
"In order for unification to take place, it must be done under the water, but aren't we pointing fingers at each other even before under the water?" he said adding, "Unification should have coordinated with each other between December last year and early January this year."
Rep. Hong pointed out that there are currently many obstacles to unification. He said, "For candidate Ahn, if you take a wrong step this time, it will remain a 'withdrawal expert', so it is difficult to withdraw easily because of the trauma," and explained, "If both of them run (unified on the premise of one's resignation), it will violate the election law."
He pointed out that if he promises to guarantee nomination rights or major positions in the next government in return for his resignation, he must face criminal punishment for issuing the interests of candidate resignation.
"Now, if you resign (for no reason), you must resign unconditionally," he said. But is Ahn Cheol Soo in a position to resign unconditionally? "We pushed for unification poorly," he pointed out.
Rep. Hong also said, "Lee Tae-kyu, head of the People's Party's general election headquarters, gave a press conference and Lee Joon-seok's excessive remarks on the communication platform with young people, causing excessive disclosure of behind-the-scenes transactions and Ahn Cheol Soo slander." When he pointed out, "What's wrong with unification?" he replied, "The Democratic Party of Korea is calling for political reform and integrated government theory every day, but the Uri Party is fighting each other every day with unification, so how the people will see it."
