브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 윤석열 국민의힘 대선후보와 안철수 국민의당 후보간 단일화 협상이 출구를 찾지 못한 채 어둠 속을 헤매는 상황이다.
윤석열 후보는 27일 오후 긴급 기자회견을 갖고 "안타깝게도 오늘 아침 9시 단일화 결렬 통보를 최종적으로 받았다"고 밝히며 단일화 협상 과정을 공개했다.
투표용지 인쇄일인 28일 이전 야권후보 단일화 기회도 사실상 무산된 것으로, 이제 마지막인 본투표일 3월 9일 이전 합의 기회만 남겨두고 있다.
윤 후보는 이날 기자회견에서 "우리 당 의원들과 전권을 부여받은 양쪽 대리인들이 만나 진지한 단일화 협상을 이어왔다"고 설명한 뒤 "저는 오늘 이 시간까지 안철수 후보와의 단일화를 위해 진실한 마음으로 최선을 다해왔으나 안철수 후보가 오늘 오전 단일화 결렬을 통보해왔다"고 전했다.
전권을 위임받은 양측 대리인은 국민의힘측에선 윤 후보 측근으로 불리는 장제원 의원, 국민의당은 이태규 총괄선대본부장이 맡았다.
윤 후보는 "제가 국민의당 최고위 인사와 통화해서 제 분명한 의사를 전달키도 하고 여러차례 안 후보께 전화통화를 시도도 하고 또 문자로 제 입장을 전달하기도 했다"며 "어제는 양측의 전권 대리인들이 오후 2시부터 4시까지 회동을 했고 최종 합의를 이뤄서 저와 안 후보에게 보고가 됐다. 저와 안 후보와의 회동 일정 조율만 남은 상태였다"고 설명했다.
이어 그는 "다시 저녁에 그동안 완주의사를 표명해온 안 후보께서 완주 철회를 위한 명분을 조금 더 제공해달라는 요청이 있으셨다"며 "그래서 저는 가능하다면 안 후보의 자택을 방문해서 정중한 태도를 보여드리겠다는 의사를 전달했다"고 말했다.
양측 전권 대리인은 27일 새벽 4시까지 협의하며 회동을 시점과 방식 등을 협의했으나 안 후보측에서 일방적으로 결렬 통보를 해왔다고 윤 후보는 주장했다.
그러나 윤 후보는 "안 후보께서 시간과 장소를 정해주신다면 제가 지방에 가는 중이라도 언제든지 차를 돌려 직접 찾아뵙고 안 후보와 흉금을 터놓고 이야기를 나누고 싶다"면서 "안 후보님의 화답을 기다리겠다. 국민들의 열망인 정권교체를 위한 야권통합에 저는 희망의 끈을 놓지 않겠다"고 호소했다.
단일화 협의가 갑자기 결렬된 이유를 묻는 질문에도 "이유는 저희도 알 수 없다. 그쪽에서도 오늘 아침에 '이유를 모르겠다. 특별한 이유는 없는 것 같다'는 답변을 받았을 뿐"이라고 답답함을 토로하기도 했다.
반면 안철수 후보측에선 "(단일화는 애초부터)고려할 가치가 없었다"는 반응을 보였다.
안철수 후보는 이날 전남 여수 유세 일정을 마친 뒤 기자들과 만나 "(국민의힘에서) 어제 한번 이야기를 해보자는 제안을 해와 어떤 말을 하려고 하는지 이태규 의원이 가서 이야기를 들어보기로 한 것"이라며 "(단일화를 위한) 전권 대사 이런 개념은 없었다"고 반박했다.
안 후보는 이어 "오늘 아침에 전해온 내용을 듣고 그 내용이 이전과 별반 차이가 없기 때문에 고려할 가치가 없다고 결론을 내렸을 뿐"이라고 못박았다.
이태규 본부장도 이날 입장문을 통해 "결국 단일화 불발의 배경에는 양측간 신뢰 문제가 자리 잡고 있었는데, 오늘 회견으로 자신들의 책임회피를 위해서는 어떤 짓도 할 수 있는 신뢰하기 어려운 세력이라는 점을 거듭 확인시켜주었다"며 "먼저, 자신들의 요청으로 시작된 비공개 협의 사실을 후보가 직접 나서서 공개하고 일방적 관점에서 주장한 것은 단일화의 진정성이 있다고 주장하면서 다시 한번 스스로 진정성을 부정하는 모순된 행동"이라고 비판했다.
이 본부장은 "어제와 오늘, 윤석열 후보 측과 단일화 방향에 대해 의견을 교환한 것은 사실이나 이는 단일화 결렬 선언 이후 안 후보에 대한 집중적인 문자폭탄으로 전화가 마비됐다"며 "윤 후보가 직접 안 후보에게 전화도 하고 만나자는 문자도 보냈다 하고, 실무진들도 지속적인 만남과 협의 요청을 해 왔기에 실무차원에서 윤 후보 측 진의를 확인할 필요가 있다고 판단했기 때문"이라고 밝혔다.
그는 이어 "양측이 단일화 관련 의견들이 오갔고, 윤 후보 측이 구상하고 제시하는 단일화 방향과 내용이 상호 신뢰를 담보하기에는 불충분하다고 봤기에 오늘 아침 최종 결정에 이르지 못했다"며 "최종 결정에 이르지 못한 배경에는 단일화 제안 이후 보여주었던 윤 후보 측의 다양한 수사에도 불구하고 신뢰에 대한 문제가 컸는데, 결론적으로 자신들의 뜻대로 되지 않자 모든 것을 자신들의 변명과 입맛에 맞추어 일방적으로 까발리는 것을 보면서, 윤 후보 측에서 제안하는 여러 내용을 그대로 믿기에는 신뢰에 문제가 있다고 결정한 최종 판단이 맞았음을 확인하게 된다"고 설명했다.
