국가철도공단, 철도기후선언 동참

국가철도공단은 7일 국제철도연맹(UIC)이 주관하는 ‘철도기후선언’에 동참한다고 밝혔다.

이번 ‘철도기후선언’ 동참은 탄소중립에 대한 실천 의지와 국제철도시장에서의 공단 위상 강화를 위해 추진했다.

‘철도기후선언’은 파리기후협약 목표인 2050년 탄소중립을 위해 ▲ 에너지 소비 및 이산화탄소 배출량 감축 추진 ▲ 2050년까지 탄소중립 달성 ▲ UN 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 기여 등 탄소중립 기반 마련을 위해 협력하게 된다.

그동안 공단은 ‘국민을 잇는 Rail, ESG로 여는 내일’이란 ESG비전 아래 2035년까지 친환경 에너지 전환을 위한 전면 전철화, 국민의 이동권 향상을 위한 주요 거점 이동시간 절반 단축 등 ESG를 경영에 실천해왔다.

김한영 이사장은 “앞으로도 국내외 철도 분야 2050 탄소중립 정책을 선도하고, 국제사회가 지향하는 탈탄소 철도건설을 위해 책임과 역할을 다 하겠다.”고 말했다.
