한국수자원공사는 이달 21일부터 26일까지 세네갈에서 열리는 ‘제9차 세계물포럼(World Water Forum)’에 참가한다고 22일 밝혔다.
세계물포럼은 세계 최대 규모의 물분야 국제행사로, 정부, 국제기구, NGO, 기업 등 약 200여 개국의 참여자들이 범지구적 물이슈에 대한 해결방안을 논의하기 위한 자리이다.
이번 세계물포럼’에서는 평화를 위한 물 안보와 개발(Water Security for Peace and Development)로, 장관급‧국회의원 등 고위급이 참여해 물안보에 대한 정치적 메시지를 전달한다.
다양한 참가자들과 함께 세션·전시(EXPO) 등을 통해 물 관련 개발에 대한 기술적 해결책도 제시된다.
한국수자원공사는 이번 포럼을 통해 ‘글로벌 물-에너지-도시, ESG 넥서스’ 선도기업으로서의 그간의 성과 및 향후 비전 등을 알리고 글로벌 물산업 리딩 기관들과의 네트워크를 강화할 계획이다.
특히, 한국수자원공사는 대한민국의 물관리 역량과 기술을 전 세계에 홍보하고, 세계 1호 UNESCO 도시 물관리 인증사업의 본격 추진을 위한 시범사업 협약 체결, 첨단 클라우드 기반의 글로벌 물 문제 해결을 위한 디지털워터플랫폼 ‘wateRound’을 론칭한다.
또, 행사 기간 동안 정부, 지자체, 기업 등 물분야 기관들이 참여하는 ‘한국관 (Korea Pavilion)’을 운영하며 대한민국의 우수한 탄소중립 스마트 기술을 소개하고, 수자원공사의 협력사인 물기업*들의 제품 홍보와 수출상담도 지원할 예정이다.
이밖에도 세계물위원회(WWC)를 비롯해 UNESCO, USAID, 네덜란드 워터파트너십 등 세계 각국의 물 전문기관 및 국제기구와 면담 등을 실시할 예정이다.

한편 포럼 기간 동안 한국수자원공사가 의장을 맡고 있는 아시아물위원회(Asia Water Council, 회장 박재현) 역시, 별도의 홍보관을 통해 아시아 물 문제를 널리 알리고 인도네시아에서 개최된 제2차 아시아국제물주간*의 성과를 확산할 계획이다
