신천지예수교 증거장막성전(총회장 이만희‧이하 신천지예수교회)측은 15일자 보도자료에서 “코로나19 장기화에 따른 국가적 혈액 수급 위기를 극복하고자 전국적으로 단체헌혈을 진행한다”고 전하고 “대한적십자사 혈액관리본부에 따르면 혈액 보유량은 현재(13일 기준) 적정 혈액 보유량 5일에 미치지 못하는 3.4일분으로, 혈액수급위기 ‘주의’ 단계에 근접한 상태다. 혈액은 일평균 5일분 이상을 비축해야 안정적인 의료 활동이 가능하다. 이같은 상황을 극복하기 위해 신천지예수교회는 대한적십자사 혈액관리본부와 논의하고 오는 18일부터 30일까지 전국 74개 교회에서 각 도시별 혈액원 및 헌혈 버스를 이용해 헌혈 캠페인 ‘생명 ON’을 실시한다”고 밝혔다.
신천지예수교회는 “이번 캠페인은 총회본부 및 12지파 중진 사명자, 교역자 등을 우선으로 참여하고 성도 중 건강이 양호한 헌혈 가능자를 선별해 총 6천명 분의 혈액을 확보하겠다는 것이 목표다. 헌혈 후에는 기부권과 헌혈증 기부도 예정되어 있다. 이는 우리나라 하루에 필요한 헌혈 인원 5천 400명을 크게 넘어서는 양으로 헌혈 완료 후 적정 혈액 보유량인 5일분을 채울 수 있을 것으로 기대된다”면서 “대한적십자사 관계자는 ‘지난 2020년 코로나19 치료제 개발을 위해 성도들이 단체 혈장 공여에 참여한데 이어 최근 오미크론 변이 확산으로 국가 수준의 혈액수급 위기를 겪고 있는 상황에서 다시 전국 규모의 헌혈캠페인 추진을 결정해 주셔서 깊이 감사드린다’고 밝혔다”고 알렸다.
신천지예수교회는 “코로나19로 헌혈 참여가 줄어 생명이 위태로운 수술 환자조차 수혈 받지 못해 지정헌혈을 호소하는 안타까운 소식을 접하고 위기 극복에 보탬이 되고자 단체 헌혈을 진행하게 됐다”며 “헌혈은 생명을 나누는 가장 가치 있는 봉사로, 모두가 어려운 시기 종교인으로서 나서서 해야 할 일”이라고 말했다.
신천지예수교회는 지난 2020년에도 코로나19 치료제 개발을 위해 6천 명이 단체 혈장 공여에 자발적으로 참여하여 코로나19 위기 극복에 적극적으로 나섰다. 이 혈장은 그동안 치료제 개발과 바이러스 연구를 위해 활용되어 왔다. 현재는 코로나19 국내 개발 백신의 임상시험용 국가표준 물질의 개발과 보급을 위해 활용된다. 이 외에도 태안반도 기름유출 복구 봉사, 세월호 지원 봉사, 포항 지진피해 복구 봉사, 경북 강원 산불 피해 지원 등 국가적 위기 때 마다 이웃 사랑을 실천해왔다.

Blood must be stored for an average of 5 days or more for stable medical activities. To overcome this situation, Shincheonji Church of Jesus will discuss with the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross and conduct a blood donation campaign 'Life ON' at 74 churches across the country from the 18th to the 30th, using blood centers and blood donation buses in each city.” said.
Shincheonji Church of Jesus said, “The goal of this campaign is to secure blood for a total of 6,000 people by participating in the General Assembly headquarters, senior missionaries of the 12 tribes, and clergy first, and selecting those who can donate blood in good health among the members. Shincheonji Church of Jesus, 6,000 people voluntarily participated in the group plasma donation to develop a treatment for COVID-19 in 2020, and actively overcame the COVID-19 crisis. This plasma has been used for the development of therapeutic agents and virus research. Currently, it is used for the development and dissemination of national standard materials for clinical trials of domestically developed vaccines for COVID-19.
