브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘과 국민의당이 18일 공식적으로 합당을 선언했다. 합당 이후 당명은 국민의힘을 유지하기로 했다.
이준석 대표와 안철수 대표는 이날 오후 3시 국회 소통관에서 기자회견을 열고 "국민의힘과 국민의당은 선거에서 선언했던 단일화 정신에 의거해 더 좋은 대한민국을 만들고 공동 정부의 초석을 위해 다음과 같이 합당을 선언한다"고 밝혔다.
안철수 대표는 이 자리에서 합당 합의문 조항을 낭독했다. 그는 "국민의힘과 국민의당은 당대당 통합을 추진하며 통합당의 당명은 국민의힘으로 한다"며 "양당은 끊임없는 변화와 개혁을 주도하기 위한 정강정책 태스크포스(TF)를 공동으로 구성하고 새로운 정강정책을 제시한다"고 했다.
이어 "양당은 민주적인 정당 운영을 위해 노력하며 지도부 구성을 포함해 양당 간 합의 사항을 실행한다"며 "양당은 제8회 전국 동시지방선거 공직자 후보 추천 과정에서 양당 간 합의된 기준으로 공정하게 심사한다. 이상 양당은 국민 모두를 위한 정당이 되기 위하여 최선을 다할 것을 다짐한다"고 말했다.
안 대표는 당초 부친의 병세 위독으로 부산에 내려갈 예정이었으나, 합당 발표 기자회견에 직접 참석했다. 안 대표는 발표 직후 기자들과 만나 "합당 선언은 당 대표의, 공당의 책무"라며 참석 이유를 밝히며 "저는 당 대표로서 할 일을 마치고 빨리 부산으로 가겠다. 양해 부탁드린다"고 말한 뒤 자리를 떠났다.
이준석 대표는 국민의당 당직자 처우 문제에 대해 "최종 협상에서 국민의당 당직자 7명을 승계하기로 했다"며 "다만 처우에 대해서는 우리 당 내부 규정에 따라 논의할 것이다. 국민의당에서 있던 처우와 동등하거나 그 보단 낮게 처우할 예정"이라고 전했다.
이어 최고위원과 여의도연구원 부위원장직에 대해 "당 규모상 1명 추가가 관례인데, 저희는 최고위원 2인을 받아들이기로 했다"고 말했고 "여의도연구원은 제가 이사장으로 있기 때문에 부원장 부임은 내부 절차에 맞게 논의하겠다"고 했다.
지방선거 공천 문제에 대해선 "내일부터 이틀 간 국민의당 출신 지선 출마 후보자 등록을 받을 것"이라며 "4명 이상 신청한 지역은 예비경선을 통해 3인을 추리기로 했고, 신청자 3인 이하의 지역의 경우 바로 본경선을 하기로 했다. 경선 방식은 100% 국민 여론조사"라고 설명했다.
이준석 대표는 "비례대표의 경우 뒤늦게 합당을 선언했기 때문에 당연히 배려하는 형태로 공천관리위원회에서 조정할 것"이라며 "기초자격평가(PPAT)는 의무사항이나 별도로 해야 할 것으로 개인적으로 판단한다. 정진석 의원과 판단해보겠다"고 했다.
