강미애 세종시 교육감 예비후보가 "교육청 내 유아교육(지원)과를 신설하겠다"고 공약했다.
강 예비후보는 2일 "세종시 출산율 평균 연령은 37.4세이고 출산율 역시 전국에서 가장 높다"며 "인구대비 유아 비율이 상대적으로 높음에도 불구하고, 유아교육 시스템은 이에 미치지 못한다"고 비판했다.

강 후보는 "가까운 대전과 충남교육청에는 유아교육과뿐만 아니라, 교육청 산하 유아교육진흥원이 있다"면서 "세종시에는 유치원이 62개, 초등학교가 52개, 중학교가 27개, 고등학교가 21개 있으면서도 중고등학교는 중등교육과에서 유치원과 초등학교는 유초등교육과에서 전담하고 유초등교육과 아래 유아교육과 팀이 유치원 62개를 맡고 있다"고 설명했다.
이어 "이러한 운영 방식 안에서 안정적인 유아교육 지원이 가능할지 의문"이라며 단설유치원의 기능과 교육 담당자의 중요성도 강조했다
