정상신 대전시교육감 예비후보(이하 정 후보)가 성광진 예비후보의 설동호 예비후보와의 양자 토론 제안에 발끈하고 나섰다.
정 후보는 5일 보도자료를 통해 “교육감 선거를 불과 한 달도 안 남겨둔 시점에서 지난번 선거에 출마했던 두 남자 후보들끼리 1:1 양자 토론회를 운운하는 모습에 개탄하지 않을 수 없다”고 말했다.
그러면서 “대전선거관리위원회에 출마의 뜻을 밝힌 후보는 본인을 포함해 4명인데 어떻게 둘만의 토론으로 이끌어간다는 말인지, 이것은 의도적 왕따이고, 기득권이 기득권을 유지하고 법이 보장하는 공정성을 무시하는 심각한 불법행위이고 아니면 무지함이고, 교육감이 교육대상으로 교육하는 학생들조차도 하지 않는 파렴치한 행동”이라고 직격탄을 날렸다.
정 후보는 이어 “공정성 뿐만 아니라 두 남자 후보끼리 토론자로서 운운하는 것은 이 땅에서 여자는 교사, 장학사, 교감 그리고 교장 모두 35년 10개월을 해도 교육정책을 토론하는 자리에 낄 수 없다는, 시대착오적 성차별의식을 보여주는 상징적 사건이고 저열한 인식이라”고 공격을 멈추지 않았다.
정 후보는 또 “대전교육가족들과 유권자 모두는 후보자 모두의 교육 소신과 신념, 그리고 정책에 대해 듣고, 판단해야 할 권리와 의무를 갖고 있습니다. 하지만 선거 토론회를 남자후보끼리 임의로 양자대결로 하자는 것은 기득권 세력의 오만과 폭력성입니다. 이는 입후보자인 여성후보자 정상신은 물론 유권자인 대전 시민 여러분의 권리마저 훼손하는 것으로 개탄스럽습다”며 우려를 나타냈다.
“각본처럼 늘 강자가 이기는 것이 당연한 세상이면 선거가, 토론이 무슨 의미가 있겠습니까”라고 반문한 정 후보는 “교육계의 수장을 선출하는 교육감 선거에서 이와 같은 불공정하고 성차별적이고 무지한 논리가 정당화된다면 과연 우리는 아이들에게 어떤 가르침을 줄 수 있겠느냐”면서 두 사람의 토론이 성차별이라는 주장을 폈다.
한편 대전시교육감에 도전한 성광진 예비후보는 지난 5월 3일 설동호 교육감 예비후보와의 1:1 양자 토론을 제안했었다.
